What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kalim Beach is highly praised for its stunning sunsets and vibrant, affordable street food scene, offering an authentic taste of Phuket. While not ideal for swimming, its proximity to Patong and relaxed atmosphere make it a favorite for evening strolls and culinary exploration.
"Directly near the coastline there is a road, noise from it does not create a cozy atmosphere. Traffic is frequent. To call this place a recreation area can be called with a great strain, rather it is an intermediate resting point near the waves, between the planned route. The beach itself is practically deserted (a sharp contrast to the famous tourist center Patong, north of which it is located), there are no sun beds and umbrellas, it is unsuitable for swimming. This is a medium-sized beach, its length is 900 meters.
In the evening there are a lot of locals here selling food and quick snacks, so at this time it is especially crowded, there may be a problem with parking.
The flora is not rich, all the greenery is across the road from the coast.
The water in the sea here is clean (the bottom is strewn with stones), the entrance is shallow. The sand is hard, yellow-gray in color. Kalim is exposed to the tides (follow them in the appendix).

The Kalim Beach Experience: Beyond the Beach
Beyond the food, Kalim Beach is celebrated for its spectacular sunsets. The western-facing coastline provides a perfect vantage point to watch the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in a myriad of colors. This makes it a popular spot for couples and photographers looking for a romantic or picturesque setting.
While not ideal for swimming due to its rocky seabed in some areas, Kalim Beach is a fantastic place to experience local life, enjoy a casual meal, and witness a beautiful natural phenomenon. Its proximity to Patong also means you can easily access more energetic nightlife and shopping if desired.
Navigating Transportation in Phuket
For longer distances or exploring different parts of the island, consider pre-booking a private transfer or VIP van, especially if you're arriving with a group. The local blue buses, known as 'Songthaews', offer a very economical way to travel between beaches along the main coastal roads, though they may be slower.
Renting a scooter is a popular option for independent exploration, offering flexibility. However, it's crucial to be an experienced rider and always wear a helmet, as traffic can be chaotic. Ensure you have the correct international driving permit and insurance.
Phuket's Culinary Delights: Street Food Focus
When exploring the street food scene, look for vendors with high customer turnover, as this usually indicates fresh ingredients and popular dishes. Don't be afraid to try new things; many vendors are happy to explain their offerings. Popular choices include Pad Thai, Som Tum (papaya salad), various satays, and fresh fruit smoothies.
While cash is preferred by most street vendors, some may accept card payments with a small surcharge. It's always wise to carry enough Thai Baht to fully enjoy the culinary adventure that Kalim Beach has to offer.
