"Great natural beauty. Best visit in the week cause it can get very busy at weekends. Also gets real hot in summer near the wood fence areas. Also don’t do what I saw somebody do and leave your mi pile on those wood fences for tool long cause the case can melt or the phone overheat. Anyway beautiful place and outside there is even a place to wash your hands in the thermal water. Nearby there’s many hoping hotels too"

"Great place. A bit warm there but it is beautiful to take a look on that thermal valley. Be aware, the thermal valley is very short, so you probably will spend here at most half an hour. The area around is also beautiful"
Tomer Melamed
"Thermal Valley is free admission. You can go as early as 9am. Enjoy the heat from the pond and discover the stones are majority in green color due to the chemical elements. No dipping whatsoever due to safety issue. Must-go-spot if you are in Taiwan"

The Unique Geology of Beitou Thermal Valley
The heat from the springs is intense, making direct contact dangerous. This is why the area is cordoned off with wooden fences, serving as both a safety measure and a viewing platform. Visitors can feel the warmth radiating from the valley and witness the bubbling water, a powerful reminder of the earth's internal energy. The air is thick with the scent of sulfur, a characteristic that defines the Beitou experience for many.
While you cannot bathe in the Thermal Valley itself, the surrounding district is renowned for its numerous hot spring resorts and public baths. These facilities utilize the same geothermal resources, offering visitors a chance to relax and rejuvenate in therapeutic waters. The contrast between the raw, untamed beauty of the Thermal Valley and the curated relaxation of the hot spring resorts is a key part of Beitou's appeal.
Exploring Beitou's Rich History and Culture
The Beitou Hot Spring Museum is a must-visit for history buffs and those interested in local heritage. It details the evolution of Beitou from a natural hot spring area to a significant recreational destination. Walking through its halls, visitors can imagine the past grandeur and understand the cultural importance of these thermal waters. The museum is located within the beautiful Beitou Park, making it easy to combine with a leisurely stroll.
Beyond the museum, the entire Beitou district exudes a sense of history and tranquility. The Beitou Public Library, with its eco-friendly design, and the surrounding park create a peaceful atmosphere. Exploring these areas provides a broader understanding of how Beitou has balanced its natural attractions with cultural preservation and modern development.
Hot Spring Etiquette and Experiences
For those seeking a communal experience, public hot springs like those at Spring City Resort offer a chance to soak alongside locals and other travelers. These often require swimwear and provide a more casual atmosphere. Private rooms in hotels or dedicated bathhouses offer more seclusion and are ideal for couples or families looking for a more intimate experience. Booking these in advance is highly recommended, especially for popular resorts like Radium Kagaya or Sweetme Hotspring Resort.
Be aware of the different types of hot spring water available. Beitou is known for its sulfurous hot springs, which are believed to have therapeutic benefits. Some facilities may also offer radium springs. The temperature of the water can vary, so it's wise to test it before fully immersing yourself. Remember to stay hydrated and listen to your body, taking breaks as needed.
