What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Teapot Mountain Trail is a challenging yet rewarding hike with stunning panoramic views of the coast and mountains. While the climb involves significant rock scrambling and can be strenuous, the unique teapot formations and summit cave offer memorable experiences. Some visitors found the trail's start difficult to locate and noted that local transport can be unreliable, suggesting walking from Jiufen as a more dependable option.
"Such a magnificent hike. It was over in less than 2 hours, but a great challenge and killer views out over the surrounding sea and mountains.
Getting here: turn on google maps and let it guide you while you walk from Jiufen to the Teapot Mountain trailhead. If i had my time again, that’s what i’d do. It’s only 35 minutes … and i waited almost double that time for a local bus (which was supposed to run every 17 minutes).
i tried to follow the bus recommendations and they just didn’t seem to work. Google told me bus 965 goes there, but the 965 bus driver told me he didn’t go there?? So i ordered an Uber and got shaken down by the taxi driver, for an 11 minutes ride. Just another 20 minutes and i could have got there on foot!
So walk .. you’re wanting to hike? So start it off with a walk to the trailhead."

"I did all 3 trails (Teapot mountain, Banpingshan then Canguangliao). From the teapot mountain trailhead it took me 3h30 to do all 3 trails and I ended in Jinguashi village.
Was challenging at times (squeezing through boulders, climbing up ropes, a lot of scrambling and also walking through dense overgrown parts). But very enjoyable if you’re open to adventure. Bear in mind a LOT of insects along the way so bring repellent."

Navigating the Terrain: What to Expect
Traveler Tip: Many reviewers emphasize the need for sturdy hiking shoes with excellent grip. Avoid wearing casual sneakers or sandals, as they can be dangerous on the slippery and uneven surfaces. The trail can also be quite exposed in parts, so be mindful of the weather conditions. If you're looking for a straightforward walk, this might not be it, but for those seeking a bit of an adventure, the unique terrain is part of the appeal.
The 'Teapot' and Its Summit
Community Insight: Some hikers describe the experience inside the teapot cave as surprisingly serene, a quiet refuge amidst the climb. The hidden teapots scattered near the top also add a whimsical touch to the summit experience, making it a memorable destination for both adventure and a bit of fun.
Connecting Trails and Beyond
Planning Ahead: If you're considering linking trails, be aware that navigation can become more complex, and the terrain might change significantly. For instance, one traveler noted a connector trail to Golden Waterfall became sketchier than expected, with disappearing railroad tracks and steep gulches. Always have a reliable navigation tool and be prepared for varied trail conditions when exploring beyond the main Teapot Mountain loop.
