Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Yıldırım Bayezid Mosque Complex for its impressive interior and exterior, highlighting its significant architectural innovation as one of the first large, pillarless, single-domed mosques. The unique 'ahilik' bread-sharing tradition after Friday prayers is also a memorable cultural experience. While the mosque itself is a draw, some note that Mudurnu is a small town and may not warrant a special trip unless combined with other regional sights.

"Very nice interiour and exteriour, very nice"

Filip Johansson

"It was built by Bayezid the Thunderbolt in 1382, during his reign as prince, along with a bathhouse and madrasa. The mosque, with its nearly square, rectangular plan, has a squinch dome with a diameter of 19.50 meters, supported by pointed arches on eight wall piers, marking the beginning of the experimentation with large domes in early Ottoman architecture. In the center is a recessed iwan-shaped arch, and at the entrance is a small, fluted dome-shaped narthex."

Seçkin Öztürk

"It's a remarkable work of historical and architectural significance; one of the first examples of a large, pillarless, single-domed mosque. Originally built as a complex, most of the tombs inside were moved to the Suleiman the Magnificent Mosque after the dervish lodges and dervish lodges were closed.

It's also known as the Topal Mosque because one of the pillars at the entrance is missing. There's also a beautiful tradition among the locals: ahilik (ahi-order). Normally, there's a bread break after leaving the mosque on Fridays. There was one when we visited. I'd encountered it for the first time on various routes in Türkiye, and I liked it.

A small and beautiful mosque, one of the few notable features of Mudurnu."
