"The place is quiet and beautiful🌳☀️ We came in 2023, but we didn't get there. But in 2025 we managed to🙂 we weren't part of a tour, we just went on a weekday ourselves. It's a long walk, I recommend taking a taxi🚕 and take candles 🕯️🕯️🕯️ with you (you can't buy them there, there might be a store, but it was closed). And in general I liked it, there was no one there except for the taxi driver who brought us and the temple worker. Both are very good people."

The History and Cultural Significance
For Muslims, the church is recognized as Hıdırellez Church, a name that resonates with the Hıdırellez festival, a spring celebration observed in many cultures. This dual recognition highlights the site's integration into the local landscape and its significance across different communities. While the church itself is ancient and peaceful, its story is one of migration, identity, and the preservation of heritage. Similar churches can be found in Antalya's Kaleiçi, suggesting a broader historical presence of Orthodox communities in the region.
Understanding this background enriches the visitor's experience, transforming it from a simple visit to a journey through history and cultural exchange. It's a reminder of the diverse populations that have shaped Alanya and the lasting connections that transcend borders. The church stands as a testament to this shared past, offering a quiet space for reflection on heritage and community.
Visiting as a Local vs. Tourist
Tourists, on the other hand, often arrive via organized bus tours, seeking to experience the unique historical and spiritual aspects of Alanya. While this provides easy access, it can also mean encountering larger crowds. Some travelers have noted that the experience can feel more authentic and peaceful when visited independently on a weekday, allowing for a more personal connection with the site. The contrast in experiences highlights the different ways people engage with the church – as a cherished local landmark or a fascinating historical discovery.
