Reviews Summary

Çekirge Thermal Baths offers a mixed-gender bathing experience with some guests praising the exfoliating 'kese' massage. However, several reviews highlight issues with inconsistent service, excessively hot thermal water in private rooms, and a perceived focus on tourists over locals. The mixed-gender setup and potential temperature challenges are key considerations.

"I went to this hammam with my mom after being referred by a friend. This turned out to be a big mistake.

Pros:
- good kese massage

Cons
- only mixed hammam or you have to hire a family room. This is very uncommon in Bursa where almost all hammams offer separate bathing.
- mostly catering to tourists, not locals
- terrible service
First, they tricked us with reservations by telling us that there was availability at 5pm but when I called in 5 minutes, they told that the only available spot was at 9pm. When we showed up, there were no towels! How can you go to a spa without being provided towels? Unheard of when you pay so much money. The attendant named Burcu was super rude and claimed that she was doing us a favour by finding towels! Her treatment and unprofessional response ruined the experience for us.

Overall, due to terrible service and unprofessional treatment, this was my worst hammam experience in Bursa."

"Never go. It is not clear what they are doing. He's a guarantor, he doesn't ask if you were satisfied with the massage, he just shows you the door."

Entsetzlich!

As long as you're at it, you'll be happy to see it. This is also worher nicht heruntergekühlt.

It's scary and life-threatening! In no case should you visit this resort.

My wife and I rented a room with a bathtub for 1 hour. Unfortunately, we could not bathe in thermal water even though we paid for it. It was so hot that we got scalded. The water temperature was over 54 degrees Celsius (124 degrees Fahrenheit). The water came directly from the inn, and when the tub was full, we turned it off. We scalded our feet and legs trying to wash in it. We then spent an entire hour manually filling the tub with cold water using a Hamam Bowl to cool it down. After an hour, we still hadn't gotten the water to cool. We were disappointed, but not angry; we at least used the taps to wash.

When we left, the receptionist (a blonde woman) asked if we liked it. I replied that it would have been even better if we had been able to bathe in the thermal water, but that it was boiling hot. At the same time, I was polite and friendly.

The woman suddenly became rude and disrespectful to my husband and me. She accused us of not knowing anything about thermal water and that the water was a perfect 34 degrees Celsius (94 degrees Fahrenheit). She treated us rudely and smiled at us as if we were children. Now he could show his true colors. After all, he had the money anyway, and by the way, I never asked for it back.

While he was mocking us, a worker intervened and offered me to go to the bathroom with him so he could check the water temperature. When he got there, he saw that the water was indeed "a little" too hot, about 45°C (in his words). However, the water had been sitting for over an hour, and we'd poured liters of cold water into it. So you can imagine how hot it had been before. He apologized for the woman's behavior, but nothing else happened. The rude woman didn't apologize, nor did they give us our money back. I've never had anything like this happen to me before.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The History and Healing Power of Çekirge

The Çekirge district in Bursa is historically renowned for its thermal springs, dating back to the Ottoman era. These waters are rich in minerals like sulfur and calcium, believed to have therapeutic properties for various ailments, including rheumatism and skin conditions. The architecture of the thermal baths often reflects this historical significance, with traditional Ottoman designs and serene courtyards.

Many visitors come to Çekirge seeking not just relaxation but also the purported health benefits of the mineral-rich waters. The area has been a destination for wellness and healing for centuries, attracting locals and travelers alike. The consistent temperature and mineral composition of the springs are key to their long-standing reputation.

While the modern facilities at Çekirge Thermal Baths aim to provide a comfortable experience, it's worth noting that the original charm and historical context are part of its appeal. Understanding this history can enhance your appreciation for the ancient practice of thermal bathing in Bursa.TikTok

Navigating the Mixed-Gender Experience

Çekirge Thermal Baths presents a unique setup compared to many traditional Turkish hammams. The primary bathing area is mixed-gender, which can be a departure from the separate facilities often found elsewhere in Bursa.Reddit This setup is more common in modern spa complexes catering to a broader range of visitors, including tourists and couples.

For those who prefer more privacy, booking a private family room is the recommended option. These rooms offer an exclusive thermal bath experience, allowing you to control the environment and enjoy the waters without sharing. This is particularly appealing for couples or families with young children who might feel more comfortable in a private setting.Reddit

It's important to be aware of this distinction before your visit. If you are seeking a strictly segregated hammam experience, Çekirge might not be the best fit. However, if you are open to a mixed-gender environment or the option of a private room, it can still offer a relaxing and therapeutic thermal bath experience.Reddit

Understanding the Thermal Water Temperature

A recurring point in visitor feedback concerns the temperature of the thermal water. While thermal springs are naturally hot, some guests at Çekirge have reported the water being excessively hot, sometimes exceeding 50°C (122°F) upon initial filling.Reddit This can make immediate immersion uncomfortable or even dangerous, leading to the need for significant cooling.

This issue seems to be more prevalent when using the private family rooms, where the water might be drawn directly from the source and not adequately cooled before use. Visitors have described spending their entire session manually cooling the water with cold water bowls, which detracts from the intended relaxation.Reddit

It is highly advisable to test the water temperature before fully entering, especially in private rooms. If it's too hot, politely inform the staff. While some staff members have been accommodating and acknowledged the issue, others have been reportedly unhelpful or dismissive.Reddit Being prepared for this possibility can help manage expectations and ensure a more comfortable visit.
