Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Zermatt's beautiful hiking trails, particularly those offering incredible viewpoints and a peaceful, shaded forest experience. The historical significance of some routes, with ancient buildings and granaries, adds a unique dimension. However, some reviewers note that signage could be improved, and certain 'exposed' sections require caution and surefootedness.

"Very beautiful hiking trail. relatively easy and provides some incredible viewpoints along the way. public toilets available at the start and close to the end, some of them are in the old restaurants where visitors can stop for a drink or food. You need to pay attention to the signs in the beginning of the trail in the old town. perfect trail for hiking in summer and spring. a big part of the trail runs through the forest so it is shaded, calm and super peaceful.

You will encounter some wild animals along the way including marmots.

Warning : beware of falling rocks and falling trees. always check the official maps and website for updates about closure, risks and other aspects. Ask returning hikers if you have any doubts.

This hiking trail is very interesting and presents another perspective on the history of Zermatt."

"An absolutely top-notch hiking trail that passes historic buildings all the way to the Zmuttbach reservoir. Not suitable for strollers. You'll pass several historic buildings, such as an alpine hut from the 13th century and the wooden house from 1551. There are three restaurants along the trail, and you'll enjoy unique views the entire way. In winter, surefootedness and sturdy footwear are recommended."

Andreas Wethli

"Certainly a highlight for non-mountaineers and hikers alike. Historic buildings (Switzerland's oldest granary, built in 1261) guaranteed! Definitely need improvement:
1. Signage isn't beyond reproach.
2. Missing warnings before the circular hike that there are some slightly "exposed" sections that require surefootedness and no fear of heights.
The Zermatt app classifies it as a moderately difficult hike, but there are no specific safety tips regarding surefootedness and a head for heights.
Zermatt Tourism: It could be even better.

But otherwise: Fantastic!!!"
