What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Saillon's well-preserved medieval charm and the spectacular views from its fort tower. The uphill hike is considered a rewarding part of the experience, offering beautiful scenery. While some find it quiet, many appreciate the authentic, uncrowded atmosphere.
"I hiked the slope up from Café de la Poste, a ca 15 min steady uphill walk, for the view from this tower, that has inspired the nearby restaurant Nouvo Bourg in the naming of one of its menus. There is a recently constructed wooden chair that will provide a nice rest for older folks that have made it to the top."

"The view from the top of the fort was well worth the hike. We parked at the bottom in the village and hiked up the hill to the old town and fort. The climb inside the fort is a bit ‘hairy’ and will test your nerve, but it is worth it. The view is spectacular! There are toilets and somewhere to eat in the town at the top - there is also a car park but I must admit, I preferred the walk."

"We drove past and dtopped by chance and are glad we did.
Although there was little in the way of explaination it is a small town created in the remains of an old fort.
There are some lovely little walks including some steep climbs with beautiful views. I could have stayed a long time exploring.
It is free to go up the tower.
It was strangley quiet, almost like a gjost town but maybe that is because we arrived about 11:30."
