Reviews Summary

Balmberg Pass is a thrilling, albeit challenging, route for experienced cyclists and motorcyclists, celebrated for its extreme gradients and rewarding summit views. While the drive itself is an adventure, hikers can enjoy scenic trails in the surrounding area. Some find the road demanding, but the unique experience and panoramic vistas are widely appreciated.

"On the motorcycle, a real (but short) adventure. On a bicycle, a tough challenge. While it's the quickest way from the Solothurn region to Welschenrohr, it's not for beginner's with it's 25% grade, making this one of, if not the steepest streets in Switzerland.

Coming from the north is a real challenge. Make sure to check that the next leg after the hairpin is free and take the turns wide or you'll find yourself at a 40+ degree inside turn.

On the south side, you're treated with a relatively new road, with tight, but comfortable sweeping curves and some nice views.

This pass is famous in the region for motorcycle, bicycle and others looking for a challenge, but it is not allowed for heavy vehicles and ones pulling trailers."

"The drive from Welschenrohr along the winding, steep road requires skill and is not suitable for every driving style. But what you find at the top is definitely worth it."
