"Great place to visit just to see the design or if you want to relax and get some work done. Despite all the tourist, the place is still relatively quiet and there are ample section where you can find a seat and read a book or work on the computer. The circular main hall is stunning. They have stairs for you to go up to each level. They had a room with lots of manga (Japanese comics). I would have spent a few hours there if I had the time."

"This library is full of little interesting facts. There is a spot right in the middle on the floor under the dome where your sounds are amplified back at you. There are also little gold foundations where pens used to be cleaned. This place seems like the perfect place work ! It is cosy but spacious, clean and a smart place to get work done. The library is simply gorgeous and a place I could happily spend hours and hours in."

The Architectural Genius of Gunnar Asplund
The most striking feature is the central rotunda, a cylindrical hall that houses the main book collection. This design was partly inspired by Claude Nicolas Ledoux's Rotonde de la Villette in Paris, but Asplund adapted it to create a unique and awe-inspiring space. The towering, curved bookshelves create a sense of immersion, drawing visitors into the world of literature. The use of natural light, filtered through the high windows, further enhances the serene atmosphere.
Beyond the rotunda, the library's design emphasizes harmony and human scale. Asplund meticulously considered every detail, from the materials used to the placement of reading nooks. The building is a testament to his belief that architecture should serve and inspire the community. It remains a beloved landmark and a significant example of 20th-century library architecture.
A Haven for Book Lovers and Remote Workers
Beyond its literary treasures, the library has become a popular spot for remote workers and students. The availability of quiet study areas, comfortable seating, and free Wi-Fi makes it an attractive alternative to bustling cafes or expensive co-working spaces. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful ambiance, which allows for focused work or relaxed reading without constant interruption.
While the main rotunda is the star, don't overlook the other sections. You might find dedicated rooms for children's literature, manga, or art and design. The library staff are known for being friendly and helpful, ready to assist with any queries. It’s a place where you can easily spend hours lost in books or productivity.
