What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Andrarums Alunbruk is appreciated for its unique historical ruins intertwined with beautiful natural landscapes and peaceful forest walks. Visitors enjoy the opportunity to explore the remnants of a significant industrial past and the charm of the adjacent Christinehof Castle. While the on-site café offers a pleasant break, some reviews note inconsistencies in food and drink quality.
"Once a large quarry, where hundreds of workers removed shale from the earth. Denuded local forests fueled kilns that separated the alum from the shale that held it. Its origins date back to 1635, when Skåne was a Danish province. Expanded considerably during the 1700s by Christina Piper, a widow of a close advisor to Swedish King Karl XII, the alunbrucket operated for nearly three hundred years before closing in the early twentieth century.
Now largely overgrown, the site has ruins of buildings used to process the alum, along with interpretive markers. In many respects, Andrarum's local buildings--Christinehof (in particular), Kaffestugen (where some alunbrucket workers lived), and Andrarum Kyrka--stand as relics to the activity and wealth generated by the alunbrucket, as well as to the larger population that once resided here."

"This is the nicest café in the middle of the forest.
They have all you can think of for a café.
All the nice surroundings are so beautiful here and all the walks you can take here.
The best summer place you need to visit."
Torbjörn Andersson
"The environment is absolutely wonderful. Very nice flowers everywhere. But the coffee was weak and the carrot cake was quite dry. Maybe it was because there were a lot of people, so they didn't have time. 😊"
