Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Koggala Lake for its serene beauty, abundant birdlife, and unique mangrove ecosystems, making boat rides a highlight. While the natural setting is widely appreciated, some travelers caution about potential upselling during tours and the value for money of certain activities.
"We wanted a boat ride on the lake. As we approached the boats a gentleman approached us and offered a free tour of the Spice and herb garden, we were reluctant, but went anyway - it ended up expensive because we bought a few remedies totalling Rs 30,000 and we were then asked to tip for the tour. The same gentleman organised the boat, and we headed to the fish feeling spar on the lake. The boat ride cost Rs 8000 for 3 of us, and the fish spar was Rs 1000 each. On the way, we saw many beautiful water birds, a monitor Lizard, and a couple of monkeys that were being fed by tourists from their boats - we hadn't noticed anyone else on the water until then. The boat ride is definitely worth it."

"Lovely stretch of water with mangrove all around rich in birdlife, monkeys, crocodiles etc.
Also has cinnamon plantations.
Best way to enjoy is to take a boat ride in the late afternoon or morning."

"Although the Lake is beautiful, the boat trip is not worth the money we paid. 50 euro for 45 minutes of which we stayed at least 15 minutes on an island to see how cinnamon is produced. The lake has an open connection to the sea and there are no crocodiles. Only monitor lizzards."
