"This was my favorite temple as a kid because of all the imagery/wall paintings on the old temple walls. Unfortunately, that temple that was granite has been repaired/rebuilt using concrete. The old temple was an absolute treasure. The old trees made this temple grounds/compound a truly spiritual place. I was horrified to learn it was bombed/destroyed during the war. The magnificent ancient temple built by a Pandya King as the story goes is now lost. The old trees are gone. This temple deserves to be restored to its original glory yet sadly it looks like they decided on a quick, thoughtless rebuilding process on a budget. But the geographic location is sacred and still inspiring and spiritual. A must see location that needs to be experienced."

"Naguleswaram is one of the oldest as well as most revered Lord Shiva temples in Northern Sri Lanka. This is the northern most and the only Pancha ishwaram located in Jaffna.
Annual festival is celebrated in late February - March. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims from across the country visit here on Aadi amavasai to perform rituals for their forefathers."

The Spiritual Significance of Pancha Ishwarams
Each Ishwaram has its own unique legends and historical context. Naguleswaram, in particular, is associated with the sage Nagula, who is said to have bathed in the nearby springs to cure his ailments. This connection to healing and spiritual purification is a core aspect of the temple's allure.
Pilgrims often visit multiple Ishwarams to complete a spiritual journey, seeking blessings and divine intervention. The geographical spread of these temples across the island highlights the deep-rooted Hindu traditions in Sri Lanka.
Keerimalai Springs: Nature's Healing Touch
Visitors can experience the unique sensation of bathing in these sacred pools. The springs are divided into sections, with separate areas for men and women, ensuring comfort and privacy. The proximity to the ancient temple adds to the spiritual ambiance of the bathing experience, making it a holistic visit for both body and soul.
While the springs are a natural wonder, it's important to note that they are also a place of cultural significance. Many people visit to perform ancestral rites, especially during Aadi Amavasai, further enhancing the sacred atmosphere of the location.
A Temple's Resilience: History and Reconstruction
Tragically, like many historical sites in the North, the temple suffered damage during the Sri Lankan civil war. The original structure, described by some as a magnificent ancient temple built by a Pandya King, was lost. This loss is lamented by those who remember its former glory.
However, the spirit of the place endures. The temple has since been rebuilt, though some visitors note that the reconstruction process used modern materials. Despite the changes, the sacredness of the location and its spiritual significance continue to draw pilgrims and visitors seeking solace and blessings.
