What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
While the spice garden offers a pleasant walk through various plants and an enjoyable massage, many visitors report a disappointing sales experience. The products are significantly overpriced, and some reviews question their authenticity, leading to a feeling of being misled. It's recommended to enjoy the garden's educational aspects but be very cautious about making purchases.
"I will recommend being cautious at this place IF YOU ARE VISITING. While people explain well at the beginning, nice little garden, you will get to experience local food cooking, massage etc, however all of it IS A SHOW to then sell you extremely cheap or even fake things at the store at exorbitant prices. If energy of the tour is friendly and they make you feel "guest is God", the moment they took us at the store or "pharmacy", energy changed to pushy, manipulative and contractive where they simply wanted money from our pocket and sell everything. While we managed to get our almost full refund back after a day since we discovered the quality of the things, I am sharing this review so the management can learn to respect others well, not use manipulative tactics and those visiting can be cautious! A beautiful place with so much potential misused with bad intentions. BE CAUTIOUS!"

"Here they will lure you with sweet talks and every tour or taxi operator will praise for this place with some stories, Here Products are @6-8 times costlier than the normal SriLankan market. I purchased and compared the same with some authentic market reputed store.
Overall it’s nice to visit there but foolishness to buy the things from there."

"Enjoy the garden, enjoy seeing the plants grow we only know from the supermarket, enjoy the massage, give a little tip to the masseuses and maybe to your guide, walk away and buy the stuff you want later on Amazon 😌 then it’s a nice experience. Always remember it’s a selling tour"

Navigating the Sales Pitch
Many travelers recommend enjoying the educational aspects of the garden and the relaxation of a massage, but to politely decline any purchase. If you are interested in specific spices or Ayurvedic remedies, it is far more economical and reliable to purchase them from reputable local markets in Kandy or other established shops. The experience can be positive if you manage your expectations and focus on the tour and massage, rather than the shopping aspect.
Understanding Ayurvedic Products
One visitor reported purchasing a hair removal cream for $40 USD that, upon testing at home, smelled and behaved identically to a common commercial brand like Veet, suggesting it was not a genuine Ayurvedic formulation. This highlights the importance of critical evaluation and research before purchasing any Ayurvedic products, especially from places with a strong sales focus. If you are an enthusiast of Ayurvedic medicine, it is advisable to seek out certified practitioners or well-established, trusted suppliers rather than relying on tourist-oriented spice gardens.
