What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests praise the Parador de Úbeda for its stunning historic palace setting and excellent location, offering a unique 'castle-like' experience. However, some visitors have noted inconsistencies in service and occasional issues with room comfort, such as air conditioning and ambient smells.
"Historic hotel in a restored palace from the 16th century. Having opened in 1930, it was among the very first Paradores. Anyone, not just hotel guests, can enter the restaurant and cafeteria. There's a pleasant patio for coffee, drinks, etc. The kitchen closes between 4PM and 8PM. During this time, they only serve drinks and cake."

"Great rooms, but smokey at times, superb location, and less than ideal service.
We had an absolutely awesome room, with a mostly private courtyard just outside the room. The aircon cooled the room but if you tried to set the temperature too low, the system would turn off. We noticed strong cigarette smells in the evening and morning. We suspect other patrons in adjacent rooms were smoking in their rooms.
Service was average at Best. We waited over 20 minutes one afternoon before anyone showed up to take orders for drinks. Please get more staff if you don't have enough or manage the ones you do have. At breakfast it took some time for staff to recognize us as customers and seat us. Service overall was a miss.
We loved the location. It was a few minute walk to and from the recommended car park."

"We visited this establishment in November 2022. It was rainy and misty so it was comforting to have a room that was dry, clean, and spacious to return to after long days of pounding the pavement. This hotel is part of a state owned system and it didn’t disappoint! You can stay here and be a queen and king in your own castle. We had no issues with noise and the breakfast provided was suitable. The staff were polite and we were satisfied with the rooms and decor, especially the dragons!"

The Historic Palace Experience
While the grandeur is undeniable, it's worth noting that some modern comforts might have slight quirks. For instance, air conditioning systems might have limitations if set too low, and the historic nature of the building can sometimes lead to shared air quality issues, such as cigarette smells from adjacent rooms. However, for many, these are minor points compared to the overall experience of sleeping within such historic walls. The location is also a significant plus, placing you right in the heart of Úbeda with easy access to attractions and amenities.
Dining and Refreshments
It's crucial to be aware of the kitchen's operating hours. The kitchen closes between 4 PM and 8 PM daily. During this interlude, the Parador continues to serve beverages and cake, allowing visitors to still enjoy the ambiance and a light refreshment. This schedule means that for full meals, you'll need to plan your dining around these times. Breakfast is provided for hotel guests and is generally considered satisfactory.
