What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Puente de los Poetas in Zamora for its stunning panoramic views of the city, river, and historic landmarks, highlighting its modern design and the thoughtful tribute to local poets. While functional, its pedestrian walkways offer a pleasant experience. In CDMX, it's recognized as a vital but often congested traffic route, prone to delays due to heavy traffic and weather.
"In addition to its beauty, its name stems from a certain generosity. The bridge was originally intended to honor a single poet (Claudio Rodríguez), a great of Spanish literature. However, his widow wanted to extend the honor to the city's other writers.
Its construction was carried out by the great Javier Manterola, the engineer who participated in the construction of the monumental bridge for the 1812 Constitution in Cádiz.
Today, it is the city's most important bridge in terms of vehicle traffic. However, although pedestrians stroll elsewhere, I recommend this walk because the views of the city, along with the river and its fantastic banks, are truly worth contemplating."
Jose Fernando Abraila
"A project inaugurated in 2013 by engineer Javier Manterola, which connects the CL-527 highway with the N-122 highway over the Duero River, connecting the neighborhoods of Olivares and San Frontis. It measures approximately 424.5 meters in length, with five main spans and side walkways, and was designed to divert traffic from the historic Stone Bridge. Although its initial name was intended to honor the poet Claudio Rodríguez, it ultimately honored several local poets, hence the "Poets' Bridge." It is modern, functional, and well-designed, blending contemporary aesthetics with the riverside surroundings. It offers free access for pedestrians and vehicles, and offers pleasant views of the Duero River and the Old Town."

"It is the last urban bridge built in Zamora, opened in 2013 under a design by the famous engineer Javier Manterola (bridge expert and author, for example, of the new Constitution Bridge of 1812 in Cádiz) after decades of popular clamor asking for a new communication route between both banks of the Duero downstream of the existing ones. Its opening allowed the neighboring medieval bridge to be definitively closed to road traffic. For that reason alone, we have all won. For tourists, it can be said that from this bridge you have some of the best panoramic views of the city, with the Cathedral and the Castle right in front of us and the river crossing the beautiful Olivares neighborhood with its water mills on one side, and the Pelambres beach area on the other. A beautiful area of the city that this new bridge has undoubtedly contributed to revitalizing.
On a less positive note, I would say that access to the bridge itself by car is somewhat narrow, with somewhat narrow access roundabouts. But hey, I don't know if it's because technically there was no way to make them a little larger or if the budget didn't allow for more..."
