Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking and unique volcanic landscapes of Timanfaya National Park, calling the bus tour an unforgettable experience. The geothermal demonstrations and the novelty of food cooked by volcanic heat are major highlights. While the park is exceptionally well-organized, some visitors note that the limited parking can lead to significant wait times, and the inability to exit the bus during the tour is a minor drawback for some. "It's best to buy your ticket online and then be patient to wait in a fairly long line of cars that forms due to the limited parking spaces. The organization is very good, there are people everywhere to guide you. After parking, you can immediately leave on the tour with the bus that you find near the souvenir shop. It's best to be patient to find a seat by the window. The tour is absolutely spectacular. On the way back, you can go to the souvenir shop or the cafe or watch the hot steam jets or the fire from the volcano. It's an experience that I recommend you do!"

"A unique experience, worth seeing and learning about the history of the volcanoes in Lanzarote.
If you go by car, you pay for parking (and the bus) 22€/pers. You get to the parking lot next to the el Diablo restaurant and from there you take the bus.
Everything is well organized.
You don't get off the bus during the tour. The bus stops at certain points of interest and you can take pictures (from the bus)."

"Timanfaya National Park is a beautiful place that is well worth seeing. I paid €22 (October 2025), which included admission to the park, a bus tour of the park, and a small demonstration of the still-active volcanic underground.
I recommend arriving at the park first thing in the morning at 9:00 a.m. when it opens. Later in the day, long lines form in front of the entrance because the parking lot has a limited number of spaces—the entrance and parking lot are managed by employees.
Walking is prohibited throughout the park (except for the parking lot and restaurant areas). Buses are available to take you around the park. An audio guide (EN, ES, DE) is available during the ride, or you can listen to the audio guide on your phone (IT, FR). The bus stops at the most important points, but photos can only be taken from the bus; you cannot get off.
An interesting feature is the grilling of meat and sweet potatoes over a geothermal vent.
I consider the main negative to be the overcrowding of the area, but I understand that because there is also a restaurant and a souvenir shop there, it would be very complicated to introduce timed admissions."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Volcanic Heart of Timanfaya

The LZ-67 Volcanoes Scenic Road is the gateway to Timanfaya National Park, a protected area shaped by volcanic activity. The park's dramatic landscapes are a result of eruptions that occurred between 1730 and 1736, and again in the early 19th century. These events dramatically reshaped the island, creating the unique, almost lunar terrain that visitors experience today. The road itself winds through this solidified lava flow, offering breathtaking views of craters, volcanic cones, and vast expanses of black and red rock. Reddit+1

The raw power of nature is palpable here. Unlike many volcanic sites, Timanfaya remains remarkably active. The heat beneath the surface is so intense that park staff conduct live demonstrations, such as pouring water into boreholes to create geysers of steam, or igniting dry brush with the geothermal energy. This visceral connection to the earth's internal heat is a highlight for many visitors, offering a tangible understanding of the forces that shaped Lanzarote. Reddit

Visitors are not permitted to leave the bus during the scenic tour for safety and conservation reasons. This ensures the fragile volcanic environment is preserved. However, the bus stops at key viewpoints, allowing ample opportunity for photography and observation. The audio guide provides fascinating historical and geological context, enriching the experience and turning a scenic drive into an educational journey. Reddit+1

Culinary Delights Cooked by the Earth

One of the most unique aspects of visiting Timanfaya National Park is the opportunity to dine at the El Diablo restaurant. This establishment is renowned for its innovative approach to cooking, utilizing the natural geothermal heat emanating from the volcanic ground. Reddit+1

At El Diablo, chefs prepare dishes, most famously meat and sweet potatoes, directly over a volcanic vent. This method imparts a distinct flavor and texture to the food, making it a memorable culinary experience. While the concept is extraordinary, many visitors find the prices to be surprisingly reasonable, especially given the unparalleled setting and unique cooking process. Reddit+1

Beyond the main restaurant, there are also cafes and souvenir shops where visitors can grab a quick bite or a refreshing drink. These areas are typically located near the visitor center and the bus tour departure point, offering a convenient place to relax before or after exploring the volcanic wonders. Reddit
