What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Mercado de Abastos Tarifa for its central location, cleanliness, and the quality of its fresh produce, fish, and local specialties. It's seen as an authentic alternative to supermarkets and a great spot for an early morning coffee and snack. Some visitors were disappointed by items selling out due to its popularity, especially if arriving late.
"Mercado Publico is the covered food market in the old part of Tarifa, Spain. It is central, historic and very clean. There are several stalls inside the main entrance that sell fresh fish on ice, while in the large central courtyard there are a dozen shops that have fresh vegetables, pork, beef, chicken, honey, breads, clothing, flowers and some kitchen and household items.
There is also a cafe-bar inside where you can have a coffee or alcoholic drink, but personally I prefer to enjoy a traditional cafe elsewhere in this charming town, the southernmost point of continental Europe on the Strait of Gibraltar. During the summer months Tarifa is filled with tourists and windsurfers from everywhere, and many shop at this market.
This market is only open in the mornings and it closes at 1 o'clock, but a cafe/bar is open throughout the afternoon during the warmer months.
Shopping at Mercado Publico definitely a good alternative to the large supermarkets in Tarifa."

"City market in the old city. Small but very cozy. I got here early in the morning - when the old city is still empty and the locals come here for groceries and have breakfast here. Fresh bread with pasta and the freshest olive oil - early in the morning with a cup of coffee! What could be better)"

"Great to buy fresh fruit, diverse local cheeses and butchers meat!"
