What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cala del Cañuelo is lauded as a stunning, undeveloped natural beach with crystal-clear waters, perfect for a tranquil escape. Visitors appreciate its pristine beauty and the relaxed, clothing-optional atmosphere, though the challenging access and lack of amenities require thorough preparation.
"Beautiful place for a relaxed beach day. A lot of local people are there and less tourists.
Recommendation is to find a place near the rocks to get covered from the sandy wind.
About 20 min. walk to the beach. Take enough water with you for the day."

"Probably one of the best natural beaches in continental Europe, if you're not looking for chiringuitos, toilets, showers, lifeguard service, wood bridges, parking lot and road to bring your car next to your mat or other amenities. From the place where you can leave your car, you have to walk about 30 minutes, half of them on a road under the sun, half through the pine forest, in the shadow, on a footpath.
The fine golden sand is perfect, the bottom of the ocean at the reachable depth is still only sand, there are only three spots with large rocks on the bottom - at both ends of the cove and at about 1/3 of the cove width from the south-east end. The rocks will become visible at low tide.
The old bunker was almost entirely burried in sand the last time I've been there.
The surrounding heights and the pine forest provide a bit of sheltering from the strong wind, so you can bathe in the ocean in this spot even in the days with the strongest winds when you can't use the other beaches (even if the sand cand still get blown, it will not blast as high as for example in Tarifa or on Bolonia beach which is just across the pine forest to the east.
At high tide the water is emerald and crystal clear, but at low tide and with strong winds it will get cloudy.
The phone network coverage is very scarce, and you might even get welcomed by the Morocco phone companies.
Probably because of the „filter” provided by the difficult accesibility, the statistically better human quality of the tourists that consider it worthy to come here is reflected by the cleanliness of this wonderful beach.
Traditionally used as a clothing-optional beach, last time roughly half of the sunbathers were naturists and half textilists.
I am grateful for the blissful time I had the chance to spend here, and I will definitely try to return."
