What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Vapor Buxeda Vell for its well-preserved industrial machinery and its significant role in Sabadell's history. The site is appreciated for its historical documentation and the engaging experience of seeing the steam engines. However, some reviews note issues with public use of the exterior walls for ball games, leading to damage and requiring ongoing maintenance.
"Built by the Buxeda brothers Miquel i Domènec in 1852, it was dedicated to the production and manufacture of textiles, wool, and cotton. It was the first to have electric lighting, produced by its own steam engine. Each brother had his own share of the steam engine. After the death of one of them, the heirs, the widow and son, were unable to manage it properly and were deeply in debt. They decided to rent out the warehouses in parts to industrial owners, where they set up different factories. It is currently owned by the Sabadell City Council, which has converted it into a textile industry museum, where you can see steam machinery and technology, the boiler room, and the chimney."
