What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Playa Los Charcos offers a unique natural beauty with its rock pools and resident cats, but its rocky terrain means it's not ideal for traditional swimming. Visitors seeking a peaceful spot to relax, explore tidal pools, or enjoy sunset views often find it charming, though some are disappointed if expecting a sandy beach. The 'fishy' smell can be a deterrent for some.
"Great for windsurfing o guess, but we were disappointed. As we wanted a less rocky area, we went to the beach next to it, which was unfortunately full of algae.
Overall the area smells very ‘fishy’, no pun intended, so if you can’t stand the smell is suggest you avoid the area.
Overall, I guess we had the wrong intentions as we were looking for something sandy."

"When the tide is up to the wall, the water is still very shallow and develops really warm areas. It is a great location to take in the sunrise with the many cats that live amongst the rocks. The right-hand side has deeper sand, which tends to drift that way lots of small fish can be seen just at the edge of the water, take a piece of bread into the water and break off small pieces for the fish you'll be amazed how many it will attract"

"Good walking beach, some interesting rocks and pools. Only really comfortably swimmable at or near high tide and even then I would recommend swim shoes as volcanic rock is unforgiving."
