What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely stunning natural location and the beauty of the Pyrenean mountains, often highlighting the outdoor heated pool as a memorable feature. However, some guests express disappointment with the hotel's 4-star amenities, citing issues with maintenance, outdated rooms, and inconsistent spa temperatures, alongside challenges with staff language barriers and Wi-Fi connectivity.
"The location is stunning, beautiful place for walks and enjoying the nature. The hotel however, was a let down. We attended as part of a wedding, and while the whole wedding was amazing (beautiful church, lovely outdoors drinks and canapes, and delicious food throughout the day, a beautiful indoor venue in the casino), the part of were we stayed for our accommodation, was not what you expect from a 4 star hotel. This is the older looking part on the left of the connecting bridge. The lighting in the room was poor, the room was furnished with outdated furniture, the beds had wheels and the bed moved when a large person like my pregnant self moved. There was black mold in the shower, and poor toiletries (a small bottle of shampoo and shower gel for each person and only 1 hand soap). We were also given only 1 card/key for our room. The cups were paper cups, the fridge was empty. When I asked for an iron to iron our clothes I was told they only had one and it was taken out so I needed to wait for that person to bring it back. When I finally got the iron there was no ironing board.
The free wifi is weak and intermittent, so in our room for example I had poor connection and to do our flight check in I went to reception, but internet wasn't better there.
We had dinner provided by the wedding family, which was nice, but the breakfast was OK. A lot of variety of ham/ cheeses, breads, fruits, and cereal, but the eggs on both days of our stay were cold.
I have not used the spa facilities as my friend who went before me, said that the water was between cool and cold, so I skipped that experience.
The staff was trying to be helpful, but most had limited English so they found it difficult to assist us. No brochure or information pack in the room.
Our room was very quiet, and had a nice view of the river.
Overall it was a pleasant experience, but compared to a 4 star hotel in other areas (such as nearby Huesca), you get a lot less."

"Stunning location. Incredible food at the buffet option included at Hotel Continental. Clean and comfortable rooms, although slightly small."

"Bedrooms are good and the buildings seem, for the most part, recently renovated.
The staff is not at all friendly and makes no effort to speak a language other than Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish it will be very complicated!
The SPA is unfortunately not very hygienic (showers broken, no jet to clean flip-flops,...) and too many people at once.
The restaurants are too small compared to the size of the hotels ! They makes you wait in line for 15 to 45 minutes to eat... this is not normal. Only one of the restaurants is large, the "buffet" which is not really a buffet because it only offers a few dishes. Very low-end unfortunately (not worthy of a 4 star).
Very unfortunate because the view of the mountains is superb, it is possible to go cross-country skiing, and we are close to a ski resort (+- 25 min).
With investment, more open-mindedness and the use of abandoned buildings, there is really a lot of potential!"

🚇 🗺️ Getting There
Balneario de Panticosa is located in the Aragonese Pyrenees. The nearest major airport is Zaragoza (ZAZ), about a 2-hour drive away. Driving is the most convenient way to reach the resort, with ample parking available. Public transport options are limited, often requiring multiple bus changes from major cities like Zaragoza or Huesca.
While possible, it's challenging. You'll likely need to take a bus to Sallent de Gállego or Panticosa town and then arrange a taxi or local shuttle to the Balneario itself. Check local bus schedules in advance as they can be infrequent.
From Zaragoza, take the A-23 towards Huesca, then the A-136 towards France. Follow signs for Panticosa and then the Balneario. The roads are generally well-maintained but can be winding as you approach the mountains.
Some local taxi services operate from Panticosa town, but it's advisable to pre-book, especially during peak season. There isn't a dedicated resort shuttle from the town.
The resort offers parking facilities for guests. However, during busy periods, it can fill up, so arriving earlier in the day is recommended.
🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry

The Balneario Experience: Spa & Wellness
Despite some criticisms, the unique setting of the spa, particularly the outdoor heated pool with its panoramic mountain views, remains a significant draw. For those seeking relaxation amidst stunning natural beauty, the Balneario can still offer a memorable experience, provided you are aware of potential inconsistencies in facility upkeep and temperature. It's a place where the natural environment truly takes center stage, offering a tranquil escape.
When planning your spa visit, consider booking in advance, especially during peak times, as sessions can fill up. While the spa is a central attraction, remember that the broader Balneario area offers much more than just thermal treatments, inviting exploration of its history and the surrounding natural wonders.
Navigating the Hotel and Accommodation
Key considerations for booking include inquiring about room renovations and location within the complex. The weak and intermittent free Wi-Fi is a recurring point of feedback, so if reliable internet is crucial, be prepared for potential connectivity issues. Toiletries provided are basic, and amenities like irons may be limited. Despite these points, many guests find their rooms quiet and appreciate the beautiful views of the river or mountains from their windows.
For those attending events like weddings, the overall experience can be very positive, with praise for the food and venue. However, the accommodation aspect is where the most significant discrepancies in guest satisfaction seem to lie. If you prioritize modern comforts and high-end hotel services, it's worth carefully considering your room choice or looking into alternative accommodations nearby if possible.
Exploring the Natural Surroundings
Beyond hiking, the area is ideal for nature photography, with dramatic landscapes, diverse flora, and the potential for wildlife sightings. The proximity to ski resorts also makes it an attractive destination for winter sports enthusiasts, with options for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing within a short drive. The natural beauty is a significant part of the Balneario's appeal, providing a serene escape from urban life and a chance to reconnect with the outdoors.
When exploring, always be prepared for mountain weather, which can change rapidly. Wearing appropriate footwear is essential for hiking, and carrying water and snacks is recommended for longer excursions. The sheer beauty of the Pyrenees surrounding the Balneario is an attraction in itself, offering a peaceful and invigorating environment for all visitors.
