"The priest told US to sniff his buttocks but its was really nice. after that we went for a treasure hunt at a local volcano. unfortunately the priest was taken to the volcano by się pigeones and burned Alive. I really enjoyed this place and recommend visiting this church"

Kuba koszyk

"Unfortunately the mass times here are 19.30pm Saturday
Not really suitable for buses leaving Puerto mogan at 40 mins past the hour and take 15 mins also means you have to wait an extra hour after mass
Would be fine if mass was 19.00"

Bill McColl

"Apart from getting to know the Port of Mogán, we go further inland to get to know the town of Mogán, its Temple being its building with the greatest historical value in the town centre. The Church of San Antonio de Padua began to be built in 1809 and ended in 1814, with the construction of said parish, the emancipation of Tejeda began, the municipality to which it belonged until then. From the visit to its not very large interior, we were able to see religious images and the painting of the Animas. The visit to it was interesting."

The History and Significance of San Antonio de Padua

San Antonio de Padua (born Fernando Martins de Bulhões) was a Portuguese Catholic priest and friar belonging to the Franciscan Order. He is one of the most quickly canonized saints in history, proclaimed a saint less than a year after his death. He is particularly venerated as the patron saint of the poor and is credited with many miracles. TikTok+1

He is widely known as the 'saint of lost things' because of a legend that he once had a book of psalms stolen by a novice. When San Antonio prayed for its return, the novice had a change of heart and returned the book. This has led to people praying to him to find lost items, from keys to more abstract 'lost' things like peace or love. TikTok+2

In many cultures, San Antonio is also invoked for matters of love and finding a suitable partner. This devotion is particularly strong in Spanish-speaking countries, where he is often referred to as the 'saint of lovers.' Many people write letters to him with their romantic petitions. TikTok+4

The Church's Role in Mogán's Independence

The Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua in Mogán holds significant historical importance beyond its religious function. Its construction, which began in 1809 and concluded in 1814, played a pivotal role in the town's emancipation. Reddit

Prior to the establishment of this parish, Mogán was administratively linked to Tejeda. The construction and consecration of the Church of San Antonio de Padua marked a turning point, facilitating Mogán's independence from Tejeda. This makes the church not just a place of worship but also a symbol of the town's identity and self-governance. Reddit

Visitors can find an information panel near the church facade that details this history, explaining how its existence was instrumental in Mogán's journey to becoming an independent municipality. Reddit

Beyond letters, prayers and novenas are common. TikTok videos often feature specific prayers for finding love, reconciliation, or even for an ex-partner to return.
