What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Teatro Calderón is celebrated for its beautiful, historic architecture and its role as a vibrant venue for musicals and performances. Visitors appreciate the grand ambiance and the quality of shows, though some note limited legroom. The friendly staff contribute to a positive overall experience, making it a recommended cultural stop in Madrid.
"“Stepping into Teatro Calderón is like walking through a century of Madrid’s cultural heartbeat. Originally opened on 18 June 1917 as the Teatro Odeón, the elegant building designed by architect Eduardo Sánchez Eznarriaga rises on the former grounds of the Convent of the Trinitarios. In 1927 it adopted its current name, honouring dramatist Calderón de la Barca. With over 1,000 seats, beautiful stained-glass panels in the foyer by Maumejean and ceiling murals by Demetrio Monteserín, the venue blends historic grandeur with modern stage productions. Shows ranging from musicals to dance-concerts are regularly staged here; ticket prices typically start around €15 for some events. Whether you’re a theatre enthusiast or simply exploring central Madrid, this iconic auditorium on Calle de Atocha 18 offers both architectural splendour and vibrant live entertainment.”"

"My partner and I saw Houdini the Musical. It’s a good production but as it’s still new we would say that there are “bugs” to workout.
One of the things they could improve is their ambiance of magic. They tried to have a type of guided tour at the beginning that seemed cool, we got to see various things about Houdini and his life, but in practice was a bit confusing and claustrophobia inducing.
Apart from this we loved the show! Well acted and the music is fun. Spanish is my second language and even though I didn’t understand every word it’s well done that I could understand the plot and still enjoy myself."

"Incredible experience viewing "La historia interminable, El Musical." I must admit, I do not speak Spanish but the show was exhilarating. Of course there were parts of the story I did not understand but still very enjoyable.
As for the venue, it was good. The view was clear and the area was kept clean. There is one issue which is the leg room. I am average height (5'8") and I felt very uncomfortable during the show. The show lasted two and a half hours. This is a very long time to feel cramped. Therefore, I have dropped a star."
