"Lovely gardens & free for all to enjoy in Madrid....not like the gardens in Lisbon that charge 6 euro....gardens should be free for all to enjoy!"

"We booked in advance at 10:15 and arrived to the entrance door 9:45 am there was short waiting time to open the door average queue. But once it was 10:00 we entered smoothly. 11:30 by that time there way a very long queue.
We booked online from the official website as I totally recommend for all the attractions in Madrid the earlier the better to get suitable time slot. we’ve chosen self guided ticket and I believe this is enough as you can read the info label on each room 😊"

The Significance of Puerta de España

The Puerta de España, dating back to around 1893, stands as an elegant and significant entrance to Madrid's beloved Retiro Gardens. Unlike some of the older, more fortified gates of the city's past, this structure is more of a grand statement, welcoming visitors into the expansive green oasis that is El Retiro Park. Its architectural style reflects the period, offering a picturesque prelude to the natural beauty and man-made wonders within the park. Reddit

Its location on the northwest side makes it a convenient access point for those approaching from areas like the Prado Boulevard or the Monument of the Fallen for Spain. This strategic placement ensures that visitors can seamlessly transition from urban exploration to the tranquility of the park. The gate itself, while perhaps simpler in design compared to other monumental arches, holds its own charm and serves as a perfect spot for initial photographs before embarking on a deeper exploration of the park's diverse landscapes and attractions. Reddit

Many visitors find the Puerta de España to be an ideal starting point for their Retiro Park adventure. It offers a clear visual cue that you are entering a special place, and its aesthetic appeal makes it a popular choice for capturing memorable vacation photos. The surrounding area is often less crowded in the early morning, providing a more serene experience for those who wish to appreciate the gate and the park's entrance without the hustle and bustle of peak hours.
