What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hotel Puerta América is celebrated for its groundbreaking architectural design, with each floor offering a unique artistic vision. Guests love the visual spectacle and the convenience of its metro-accessible location. However, some find that the focus on design can sometimes overshadow comfort and practicality, with occasional issues reported regarding room functionality and service.
"The hotel is very close to the metro system, which makes it convenient for getting around the city. The design is truly interesting – each floor has a different style, which makes the hotel unique and fun to explore. The staff are friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist. Breakfast is decent with a good selection.
However, due to the focus on design, some comfort and functionality are a bit sacrificed. We stayed on the 3rd floor, which is quite dark. The room itself felt small because of the large marble table and fixed bench that take up a lot of space and can’t be moved. The pillows are also quite unusual and could definitely be more comfortable.
Overall, it’s a stylish and memorable place, especially for design lovers, but travelers looking for a more practical and cozy stay might find it less comfortable."

"Worst hotel experience I have had. Water leakage in my room at midnight, I reported to reception and ask for a room change because I need to sleep. They refused until they have checked and confirmed what problem it is. Half an hour later, they said its aircon leakage and told me to wait another 30mins for fixing and cleaning. So I cant sleep or use the room til 1am. Still refused to change my room even when its completely their fault. Throughout the interaction the reception lady said zero sorry, was exceptionally rude and acted like Im trying to get a free room upgrade? When I literally just want a same-type room change so I can sleep. Unbelievably horrible service for a supposed 5 star hotel. Save yourself the trouble and never stay here. As im typing this the light isnt even working and flickering."

"This is a very unique hotel. Every floor has its own design
I was on floor 4 which was very metallic and glass design.
It was weird and the metallic features carried on in the bedrooms.
I found the bathroom a bit weird especially the shower , it’s meant to be modern metallic again but for me it I thought it was too crazy
It was comfortable and quiet though
Breakfast was okay nothing special
Staff were very friendly and a short walk to the main areas in Madrid"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider booking a floor that is less minimalist and perhaps has more distinct visual elements that children can engage with. While the hotel doesn't typically offer specific 'family rooms,' the unique nature of each floor can provide a novel experience. The top-floor restaurant with its vertical garden might also be a point of interest for younger guests.
📸 Design & Architecture Enthusiasts
To maximize your experience, research the architects and their design philosophies beforehand. Consider booking different floors for different stays to fully appreciate the breadth of talent. The hotel itself is a subject of study, offering endless opportunities for photography and inspiration. Don't miss the chance to explore the common areas and the rooftop for panoramic views that complement the architectural marvels within.
✈️ Budget Travelers (with a twist)
Look for deals or consider visiting during the off-season. Even if you don't stay overnight, you might be able to visit the lobby or the rooftop bar to get a taste of the hotel's design without the full cost of a room. However, be aware that some reviews mention extra charges for services like early check-in, so factor those potential costs in.

The Architectural Visionaries
This ambitious project aimed to push the boundaries of hotel design, transforming rooms into individual works of art. The selection of architects reads like a who's who of the design world, including names like Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel, and Ron Arad. The result is a building that is as much a destination for design enthusiasts as it is a place to stay. Visitors often express a desire to return simply to experience the other floors they haven't yet stayed on.
While the focus is undeniably on aesthetics, it's worth noting that this design-centric approach can sometimes lead to compromises in traditional comfort or functionality. Some rooms might feature unconventional layouts, furniture, or lighting that, while visually striking, may not suit everyone's practical needs. However, for those who appreciate bold design and a truly unique hotel experience, Hotel Puerta América is an unparalleled choice.
Navigating Your Stay: Tips from Travelers
Getting around Madrid from the hotel is incredibly convenient thanks to its location above the Avenida de América metro station. This major transport hub connects you to virtually anywhere in the city, making it easy to explore Madrid's many attractions without needing a car. Many travelers highlight the ease of using the metro for day trips and city exploration.
Be prepared for a hotel experience that prioritizes visual impact. While the staff are generally friendly and helpful, some reviews mention that certain design elements might be more about form than function. For instance, unusual pillow types or integrated furniture might not be to everyone's comfort preference. However, the overall consensus is that the unique design and the hotel's status as an architectural landmark make it a memorable stay for those seeking something beyond the ordinary.
