What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Habanera Madrid is lauded for its stunning, immersive Old Havana ambiance and its transformation into a lively club on Thursday nights. While the decor and atmosphere are consistently praised, some diners find the food portions small for the price and the service can be inconsistent, with reports of feeling rushed. It's often recommended for its visual appeal and nightlife rather than solely for its culinary offerings.
"The server was nice, but the food was just so bad and I would definitely only go there after dinner for a couple drinks, we were here for my girlfriend’s birthday and it was OK. but other than the ambience, there’s not much going here and I really think that they need to focus on their food selection. but the server was nice and brought out candles from when girlfriend on her birthday, which I really appreciate it so it’s not the service fault. I really think this restaurant itself needs to just focus on the food or just become a club."

"Amazing ambient with lovely staff who even gave us some complimentary treats :) the pulpa/octopus had the desired softness and well rounded taste. Warning that the size of the appetisers can easily make it a main dish :)"

"Very small portions, which could be explained if the food was excellent or very high quality but didn't seem like it.
Wont come back, spent 100€ and ate in less then 5min, that's how small the portions are..
The beef solomillo was excellent though and was truly delicious.
Disappointed and won't come back, but the interior is truly beautiful"

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
It's advisable to check if they have specific high chairs or child-friendly amenities if you plan to bring very young children. The focus on cocktails and the later transition to a club on Thursdays might make it less ideal for very early evenings with small kids. However, the visually stimulating decor could captivate children's attention during daytime hours.
💸 Budget Travelers
To make the most of it on a budget, consider visiting on a Thursday night and taking advantage of the free entry to the club after 11 PM, perhaps after having a more affordable dinner elsewhere. If dining, focus on sharing appetizers and perhaps one main dish to control costs. Be aware of potentially expensive items like bread, and confirm prices before ordering.
🥂 Couples & Celebrations
For an extra special experience, consider booking a table for dinner and then staying for the Thursday night club to dance the night away. The combination of a delicious meal (even with potentially small portions, the quality can be good) and a lively party atmosphere makes for a memorable celebration. Booking in advance is highly recommended to secure the best table.

The Habanera Experience: Ambiance and Atmosphere
Beyond the visual appeal, Habanera offers a unique dual experience. On Thursday nights, the restaurant transforms into a lively club starting at 11 PM. Guests can choose to dine and then join the party, or enter the club for free. This transition from a dining venue to a nightlife spot is a significant draw, offering a complete evening's entertainment in one location. The atmosphere during the club hours is described as vibrant and fun, with music and dancing.
However, it's important to note that while the ambiance is a strong point, some reviews suggest that the food and service might not always live up to the visual splendor. Some patrons have found the portions small for the price, and service can be inconsistent, with reports of feeling rushed. Therefore, many recommend Habanera for its atmosphere and nightlife, perhaps more than for a purely culinary-focused fine dining experience.
Navigating Habanera's Menu and Portions
However, a recurring theme in reviews concerns the portion sizes and value for money. Some diners have found the portions, especially for appetizers, to be quite small, leading to a feeling of disappointment given the price point. One review specifically mentioned spending €100 and eating very little, highlighting the small servings. Conversely, other guests have noted that appetizers can be substantial enough to serve as a main dish, suggesting variability or perhaps a misunderstanding of typical Spanish tapas sizing.
Despite these concerns, specific dishes like the beef solomillo have been praised for their quality and taste. The risotto and buñuelos are also highlighted as standout items. For those looking to manage their experience and budget, sharing appetizers is a frequently recommended strategy to sample more dishes without overspending. It's also worth noting that bread, while not explicitly a dish, has been cited as surprisingly expensive.
