What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely spectacular and vast panoramic views from Castillo de Marcuello and the Mirador de los Buitres, calling it a 'once in a lifetime' experience. The natural setting, silence, and potential for spotting vultures are major highlights. However, the challenging unpaved road requires a high-clearance vehicle, and some find the drive daunting.
"A wonderful experience! The view from Castillo de Marcuello and the Mirador de los Buitres is truly worth the trip — a spectacular panorama over the Mallos de Riglos, the gorges, the cliffs, and the entire surrounding valley. You literally overlook the entire landscape, with a striking sense of vastness and a near-solemn silence. Even though we didn’t see many vultures (we were there around noon, probably not the best time), the natural setting was absolutely breathtaking.
For access, we drove up via Sarsamarcuello and came back down using the track leading toward Loarre Castle. I definitely recommend the route through Sarsamarcuello: the track is wider and allows you to pass oncoming vehicles without difficulty or dangerous maneuvers. In contrast, the descent toward Loarre includes several very narrow sections where crossing another vehicle would be tricky, impossible without reversing.
As for the condition of the track (it was dry during our visit), you’ll still need a vehicle with decent ground clearance — we went up in a Duster, which was perfect. Some parts have large stones or uneven surfaces, so a low-clearance car might struggle or get damaged. That said, a 4x4 isn’t necessary in dry weather, as long as your vehicle is a bit raised.
Expect around 30 minutes of driving in first or second gear, but it’s absolutely worth it. The peace, the scenery, and the feeling of being at the edge of the world make this a truly special outing. Highly recommended!"
