What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Castillo de la Herradura for its impressive historical architecture, breathtaking coastal views, and affordable entry. Many enjoy exploring the expansive fortress and its naval museum, finding the historical video presentations engaging. However, some note issues with graffiti and litter, and the accessibility can be challenging for those with mobility issues.
"Like wow!! This place is epic and worth the drive up. It’s not a tough drive at all, we had no issues getting up. Plenty of parking when you do get there or you can park lower down and walk up. I think we counted three forts but only visited the one. Just an abandoned fort but it’s massive and loads to see and you can literally go anywhere. Great windy staircase going down below but very dark so be careful. Views all around are breathtaking. My only annoyance is the graffiti, litter and smell of urine here. Total disrespect for this wonderful place by idiots. Doesn’t ruin it though. So seriously, grab a picnic and make the trip you will not regret it."

"I did enjoy this alot and have been looking so much forward to see it open with the new museum..
I was very surprised positive to hear that in one place you get a little story also you could choose in English, but when you come to where there's a little movie with alot of info / the story it's only in Spanish.
Another thing I was missing alot , was to see some off all the things that has been found at some of the shipwreck..
For that I give only 3 star's"

"Excellent immersive, super-sized video of the people involved in the great shipwreck here in the bay of La Herradura.
Also, within this old fortress, physical displays of ships, tools, and the daily items of the soldiers and sailors are accompanied with well written descriptions in English and Spanish.
The fort itself is is good condition. You can walk throughout, on top of, and around it.
Some art exhibitions, concerts, and events are also held here during the year.
It may not be clear but, you can go through the old entrance gate in the wall and easily park inside on the grounds.
Very inexpensive.
This will be very enjoyable for anyone who likes history. Kids like the wall sized video presentations and things like climbing on the huge old cannons."
