Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Castillo de Otíñar for its stunning natural setting, historical intrigue, and peaceful atmosphere. Many highlight the breathtaking mountain views and the unique geological formations. While the castle is in ruins, its preserved keep and walls offer a tangible connection to the past. Some wish for restoration efforts to preserve this charming jewel.

"A small castle situated in a high place surrounded by mountains where you can see in detail several tectonic layers of stone. A very quite and silent place where you can enjoy a day out in the Nature and escape from the noisy towns."

Evelia Gonzalez

"I visited a historical and cultural site that is less known than the others in the Jaen Province. El Castillo de Otíñar is a small castle that is a 25 minute drive South of the city of Jaen. The decomposing castle stands alone atop the outcropping stone, giving the castle tower quite the spectacular view. Although the castle itself is falling apart, the deterioration of the stone building creates an energy of respect. When one stands on the crumbling stone, one is able to take in the history that exists within the castle walls. The nature that surrounds the castle is immaculate. Tall trees of green against cold-grey stones shape the landscape with beauty. Passing the castle, I easily made it to Cañada de las Hazadillas which is a rather nice recreational trailhead area. This is the meeting place of families having picnics as well as mountaineers at the start their journey. Hiking up the mountain by going South, is Pico de Grajales. At the summit of this mountain you can make out the location of El Castillo de Otíñar. 5 stars. Highly recommend."

"Otiñar Castle, a castle located about 13 kilometers from Jaén in the direction of the Quebrajano reservoir, a medieval castle that had a function of controlling the border of Castile with the Nasrid kingdom of Granada, today abandoned to its fate, castle located very close to the historic village of Otiñar, a castle with very good views and very photogenic due to the privileged location in which it is located, it preserves a tower in good condition and some sections of the wall but its scenic beauty is spectacular. If you pass by on the road, do not hesitate to go up to visit it, the climb is worth it."
