The unique concert hall and interior lake are often cited as memorable features. Some reviewers note that the tour can be physically demanding due to uneven terrain and low ceilings, and recommend booking tickets online well in advance.

"An absolute must visit! The guide was so knowledgeable, its fascinating how the tunnel was formed over thousands of years and very clever how they've been able to open it up to the public. Its a realtively easy walk, ground is uneven in places so wear decent shoes. There are quite a few bits were the roof of the cave is quite low, so you do have to bend down to get through in places. The guide warns you as you approach the low bits, so no bumped heads! The lake near the end is fabulous, and the cavern were they used to hold concerts is awesome. Well worth a visit, pleased I went!"

"Interesting attraction but I wished I had researched it more. The caves are pretty spectacular but the 45 minute tour which you have to pre book online ! (But is quite easy to do it in the car park ) is quite tricky
Steep and narrow in places and definitely not for anyone 6’6 !! Or people a wee bit claustrophobic,I think the elderly and infirm might find this quite difficult ?"

"Great and interesting tour but with way too many people. We were with I think 50 people and 1 tour guide. Cave is very cool and explanation is nice, but takes a bit long since Spanish and English is combined in one tour (therefore the bigger groups)"

The Geology of Cueva de los Verdes

Cueva de los Verdes is a spectacular example of a volcanic lava tube, formed approximately 4,000 to 5,000 years ago by the eruption of the Volcán de la Corona.Instagram+1 This massive eruption created a complex system of tunnels, with Cueva de los Verdes being one of the longest known lava tubes in the world, extending for nearly 8 kilometers.TikTokInstagram+1 The visible section open to the public is about 1 kilometer long, offering a glimpse into the raw power of volcanic activity.

The cave's formation involved molten lava flowing from the volcano. As the outer layers cooled and solidified, the still-molten lava continued to flow beneath, eventually draining away and leaving behind the hollow tube structure. This process resulted in fascinating geological formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and unique rock textures.TikTokInstagram The name 'Los Verdes' refers to a family who once owned the land, not the color of the cave itself, which is predominantly dark volcanic rock.Instagram

Part of this extensive tube system extends underwater and is known as the Túnel de la Atlántida (Atlantis Tunnel), making it one of the most significant volcanic tunnels globally.TikTokInstagram The guided tour expertly navigates through these ancient passages, explaining the volcanic processes and the history of the cave, which was once used as a refuge by the island's inhabitants.
