What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Gaztelugatxe's breathtaking beauty and dramatic coastal scenery, often comparing it to the fictional Dragonstone. The challenging climb is considered well worth the effort for the spectacular views and historical significance. However, the mandatory online reservation system can be frustrating if not planned for in advance, and the physical exertion of the steps is a significant factor for some.
"Make sure you get reservations ahead of time. You will not be allowed to descend to the bridge if you do not have reservations. Also don't underestimate the amount of work it's going to take to fully enjoy this spectacular location. There is a more than 1 km hike on a cobblestone sidewalk down to the bridge and if you choose to go up to the top of the island it's another haul up there. And when you're finished you've got to climb back up more than 1 km at some very steep grades. We found it completely worth the effort after all was said and done. Wear some very comfortable and sturdy walking shoes and bring a bottle of water with you."

"20mns walk to discover that you need a ticket to keep going. Which can only be bought on the internet. The first one available is in... 2h & a half. Even if the place is pretty much a no man's land. Annoying. Absurd. Irritating."

"Spanish joke with reservations and limit of 50p per hour. If you didn’t reserve a free ticket you will need to turn around. There and no local limit to entry - only online. So when you passed parking, small descend to gate - surprise!
You don’t need to descend just after restaurant you ca ln enter spam spot into bushes and see everything as from a dron."
