"We were there on April 10, 2023.
The sea had great waves, 3-4 meters high.
It was a fantastic experience for us and our husbands, and we had a lot of fun. I couldn't get to the gate at high tide.
My son made it. But be careful, it's not without danger. The height of the pool is an advantage. You can park right in front of it in the village.
The residents were very friendly; my wife was even allowed to use the private restroom. Thank you so much for that, we can learn a thing or two from them."

Understanding the Tides: Your Key to El Agujero
Conversely, high tide can transform the area dramatically. Powerful waves can surge over the barriers, making the pools turbulent and potentially dangerous. Access to the pools can become difficult, and some areas might be completely submerged or inaccessible. One visitor shared that they couldn't get to the gate at high tide, highlighting the importance of timing. Always check a reliable tide chart for Gáldar before planning your visit to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Pro Tip: Many visitors recommend checking the tide times the night before or the morning of your visit. This simple step can make the difference between a fantastic day out and a potentially hazardous one.
The Local Experience: More Than Just Pools
One heartwarming anecdote shared by a visitor involved a local resident allowing his wife to use their private restroom, a testament to the welcoming nature of the community. This underscores the importance of being a respectful visitor. Engage with locals, be mindful of their space, and you'll likely find the experience enriched by their warmth.
Embrace the tranquility: Unlike crowded beaches, El Agujero offers a chance to connect with the natural beauty of Gran Canaria in a more serene setting. It’s a place to unwind, enjoy the sound of the waves, and appreciate the simple pleasures of coastal life.
Safety First: Navigating the Waves
However, it's crucial to remember that you are still in the ocean. During periods of high tide or strong swells, the waves can be powerful, reaching heights of 3-4 meters as one visitor experienced. While the barriers offer protection, they are not foolproof. It's essential to assess the conditions before entering the water and to be aware of your surroundings.
Key Safety Tips: Always check the tide and wave forecast. If the sea looks rough, it's best to admire it from the shore. Supervise children closely, and avoid venturing into areas where the waves are breaking directly over the barriers with excessive force.
