Reviews Summary

Garachico is praised for its unique natural swimming pools and charming historic town. Visitors highlight the refreshing experience at El Caletón and the picturesque streets. Some reviews mention potential issues with tour operator communication, but the town itself is consistently rated positively for its beauty and relaxed atmosphere.

"Tenerife Tour were great a good description in 3 languages in all the different locations we visited in and around Mt Teide.
The driver and guild were excellent with great comfort and lunch breaks.
Overall well worth using Tenerife Tour for any Excursion."

John Newport

"Private tour for families, Perfect day out, as it was only our was to guarantee no screaming kids with lack of parental control. Easy to book and very friendly. Our driver Alberto was very funny very knowledgeable. Although we couldn’t go to the top on Mt Teide as this needs to be pre-book using a QR code with an extremely painful internet connection. My opinion don’t bother as the Alberto had taken us to other areas of Teide which were stunning. Lunch was delicious and very reasonable, great menu. The fish stew was something out of this world. We then went to do a bit of wine tasting, All in all fabulous trip, Alberto was brilliant."

Paul Stern

""I had a disappointing experience as a travel agency with this company. Despite booking a tour for my clients, the actual experience fell short of the enticing description on their website. The promised bubble experience at the hotel was missed, and the guide forgot essential elements like the snacks and wine cups, which were integral to the described experience.

As a travel agent, I understand that discrepancies can occur, but what was more disheartening was the lack of response from the agency when I shared feedback from my clients. Ultimately, I had to initiate a full refund for my clients, taking on the responsibility that should have been addressed by the agency.

The lack of communication and follow-up on their part was quite disappointing, leaving both me and my clients dissatisfied with the overall service provided.""

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Volcanic Legacy of Garachico

Garachico's dramatic landscape is a testament to its volcanic past. In 1706, a catastrophic eruption from the nearby Trevejo volcano buried much of the original town and its vital harbor under lava flows. This event reshaped the coastline and the town's destiny, leading to the creation of the unique El Caletón natural swimming pools as the molten rock cooled upon meeting the sea. The town has since been rebuilt, retaining its charm and resilience.

Today, visitors can see the remnants of this powerful natural event, particularly at El Caletón, where the rugged volcanic rock formations create a stunning and safe environment for swimming. The town's recovery is a story of adaptation and a deep connection to its environment. Exploring Garachico offers a chance to witness the raw power of nature and the enduring spirit of its people. Reddit

The resilience of Garachico is evident in its charming streets and the way it has embraced its volcanic heritage. The town square, Plaza de la Libertad, stands as a symbol of its rebirth, surrounded by beautifully preserved colonial architecture that contrasts with the wild beauty of the coast. It's a place where history and nature intertwine seamlessly. Instagram

Experiencing El Caletón: A Natural Wonder

El Caletón is the crown jewel of Garachico, offering a truly unique swimming experience. These natural pools are formed by lava that flowed into the ocean, creating sheltered basins of varying depths. The water is clear and refreshing, providing a stark contrast to the dark, rugged volcanic rock that surrounds it. It's an ideal spot for a dip, sunbathing, and enjoying the dramatic coastal scenery.

Practical tips for visiting El Caletón are crucial for a good experience. Always check the tide times; the pools are most enjoyable and safest during low tide. Wearing water shoes is highly recommended to protect your feet from the uneven and sometimes sharp volcanic rock. While basic changing facilities are usually available, they are often rudimentary, so be prepared. Reddit

The atmosphere at El Caletón is generally relaxed and family-friendly, though it can get busy during peak summer months. The sound of the waves crashing against the outer rocks, combined with the calm waters within the pools, creates a unique sensory experience. It’s a place where you can truly connect with the natural forces that shaped Tenerife. TikTok
