Kayaking at Cantarriján Beach (Paraje Natural de Maro-Cerro Gordo/Granada Province).  After inflating my kayak, I paddled out into the still, turquoise waters of Cantarriján.  The ultra clear water allowed me to see swarms of fish swimming under me.  Only in Spain 🇪🇸.    #kayak #cantarriján #beach #playa #parajenaturaldemarocerrogordo #granada #spain_realness #onlyinspain #ilovespain #yoamoesp...

Reviews Summary

Cantarriján Beach is praised for its stunning natural beauty, crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling, and the unique, respectful coexistence of naturist and textile visitors. However, the rocky terrain requires water shoes, and the shuttle bus fee can be a drawback for some. Parking can also be challenging during peak times.

"Very busy in weekends and horrible to parc. But so nice. Bring water shoes."

"Very nice beach! If you want to reach to nudist zone, keep left l. If it looks like an end and rocks there keep going, there is a hidden passage 🧙‍♂️

If you have, take water shoes. It's possible to get to water on bear feet, but at times not too comfy."

Pawel Jackowski

"I really don’t understand positive ratings here. We found a beach horrible. There’s not even pebbles. There are pretty large stones and it hurts to walk on them. I don’t have a problem with a pebble Beach. Also, the water was not very clean given it was just a stone beach I would’ve expected more. Given the difficult Approach where you wait 20 minutes for a shuttle bus. This is definitely not worth it. They are nice of beaches."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Unique Nature of Cantarriján

Cantarriján Beach is renowned for its stunning natural setting within the Paraje Natural de Maro-Cerro Gordo. This protected area means the beach remains largely unspoiled, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush vegetation. Instagram The waters are exceptionally clear, a result of the absence of black sand and the natural composition of the beach, which is made up of large stones and small pebbles. Reddit This clarity makes it a fantastic spot for observing marine life. Instagram

What truly sets Cantarriján apart is its clothing-optional policy, a fact that is embraced by many visitors. The beach is naturally divided by a rock formation, creating distinct areas. The first part typically hosts a mix of textile and naturist visitors, while the second part is predominantly naturist. Reddit This respectful coexistence allows people to enjoy the beach according to their comfort levels. Instagram

Beyond sunbathing and swimming, the beach offers opportunities for kayaking and snorkeling. Paddling out allows you to explore the coastline and even discover hidden caves, such as the famous La Cueva de Las Palomas, where you can float over crystal-clear waters teeming with fish. Instagram+1 The natural reserve status also means that motorized water vehicles are prohibited, preserving the tranquil atmosphere. Instagram

Navigating Cantarriján: Parking and Access

Getting to Cantarriján Beach involves a bit of planning, especially during the busy summer months. The primary challenge is parking, as the lower car park is often closed. Visitors are directed to an upper car park, which is free to use. Reddit If this fills up, there are additional parking areas along the nearby road. Reddit

From the upper car park, a shuttle bus service operates, transporting visitors down to the beach. This service costs €3 per person for a round trip and runs approximately every 15 minutes. InstagramReddit While it adds a small cost, it significantly eases access, especially for those carrying beach gear like chairs and umbrellas. Instagram Some reviews mention the possibility of walking from the car park, but the return journey uphill is noted as being quite strenuous. Reddit

It's worth noting that the beach itself is composed of large stones and small pebbles. While not sharp, they can be uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. Therefore, water shoes are highly recommended to ensure a more pleasant experience when walking to and from the water. Reddit+1
