Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the easy, paved walk to Torre de les Caletes for its stunning coastal views and historical significance. Many appreciate it as an accessible escape from Benidorm's bustle. However, some note the lack of shade and the need for good footwear due to steep sections and steps.

"A 30 minutes walk with slow pace and you find a beautiful spot with the ruins of an old tower. Some amazing cliffs to the north east also came up as a surprise which realy blew my head of because of their beauty.

There is only 1 bench here, so if you have walking issues or need to rest take note that this bench can be occupied by others who also have a hard time walking.

I suggest going here on a sunndy day, but do remember sunscreen and water. I forgot sunscreen myself and was heavenly burnt after taking my time getting to and from this spot without having any kind of protection from the sun."

Thor Skjærven Rakkenes

"It was a nice easy walk till you got to the steps so you need good walking shoes. When I got there, I was very disappointed that all you could see was the outside and was just a tower of rocks. The view made it ok."

vanessa mallalieu

"A nice walk from Levante beach but pretty steep in places.
Wear trainers or walking shoes. I didn't and my feet are suffering for it!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The History of Torre de les Caletes

The Torre de les Caletes, also known as Punta del Cavall or Torre Seguró, is a historic watchtower with roots dating back to the 16th century. It was commissioned by Felipe II as part of a coastal defense system designed to protect the region from pirate raids and other maritime threats. Its strategic location offered a vantage point to spot approaching ships and signal warnings to the town. Instagram

Today, the tower stands as a ruin, a silent testament to its past military significance. While its defensive purpose is long gone, it now serves as a fascinating historical marker for hikers and visitors exploring the Serra Gelada Natural Park. The remnants offer a glimpse into the area's history and the importance of coastal surveillance in centuries past. Instagram

Exploring the tower provides not only a historical perspective but also a chance to appreciate the natural beauty of the coastline. The juxtaposition of the ancient structure against the vibrant Mediterranean landscape makes it a compelling stop for history buffs and nature lovers alike. Instagram

Navigating the Serra Gelada Natural Park

The Serra Gelada Natural Park is a protected area renowned for its dramatic coastal cliffs and diverse Mediterranean flora. The hike to Torre de les Caletes is one of its most accessible and popular routes, offering stunning panoramic views without requiring advanced hiking skills. The park's commitment to conservation means visitors can enjoy a pristine natural environment. Instagram

The trail itself is largely paved, making it suitable for a wide range of visitors, including families and those looking for a less strenuous outdoor activity. However, it's important to be prepared for some steep inclines and steps, particularly as you near the tower. Regardless of the chosen path, the park emphasizes responsible tourism, encouraging visitors to stay on marked trails and leave no trace to preserve its natural beauty for future generations.
