What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cala Bendinat is praised for its stunningly clear, turquoise waters and picturesque setting, offering a beautiful beach experience. However, a significant drawback is the difficulty in securing sunbeds, with many being 'reserved' early by hotel guests, leading to frustration for visitors arriving later.
"The beach is absolutely stunning – crystal clear water, soft sand, and a beautiful view. However, almost all of the sunbeds are “reserved” the night before with towels. No matter how early you arrive in the morning, it’s nearly impossible to find a free sunbed. By around 11 AM, you’re left with no shade and standing in the full sun. Unfortunately, the sunbed operators did nothing about it, even though it’s clearly not fair. It really takes away from the overall experience."

"Beautiful location especially at sunset. It isn’t very big and a hotel is right infront of it so not worth visiting during the summer. In the winter only locals tend to go with their dogs and there are no beach chairs out so it’s nice and quiet"

"Amazing beach. However...
the Hotel (Donna) staff illegally lays out their logo beach towels super early in the day for their hotel guests. The hammocks and umbrellas are for rental on a first come, first serve basis. We came to the beach at 9AM and not a single soul was there, however all the hammocks were covered in the hotel's towels very neatly, and unisonly. It looked like a TV commercial to attract customers, it looked pristine, exactly like what a 5 star hotel is trained to do.
Nothing else was there to indicate that a person came to reserve the hammocks. There were no personal items, no sun tan bottles, no bags, no personal towels, no sandals, no snacks, absolutely nothing. There was the still, and crystal clear water, the untouched umbrellas and hammocks covered with towels. I talked to the beach cafe employee and he said you come at 9AM, they all are available. 10AM and on they are all occupied. He also explained that you get your bed and then pay later in the day with the person in charge arrives. So, we left and came back the next day.
The next day we arrived at noon and the person in charge of renting the hammocks and umbrellas was there. My husband went up to reserve something for us for the next day and was denied. My husband was told that there never are any reservations, and he was shocked to hear about the hotel towels being laid out. Another lady overheard my husband's conversation with the guy in charge and chimes in. She showed up at 8 AM and she recounted the exact same experience. My husband and her were told one can only get the umbrellas and hammocks by actually showing up in person, occupy them and then pay him later when he arrives.
It is extremely unfair to us beach guests who wake up early in the morning, drive half an hour over there, search for parking and cannot get any lounge chairs, just because some hotel and their visitors think they have special rights to a public breach. Just unfair!
Regarding the pictures: If we come back early tomorrow morning I'll take pictures of the empty beach with the hotel towels. For now I tried to get the different beach towels the hotel uses. Once the hotel guests arrive most of them add their own towels on their chairs, and of course it looks lived in and messy now."

Navigating Sunbed Scarcity
To ensure you get a sunbed, the consensus is to arrive very early, ideally before 9 AM, and even earlier on weekends. Some suggest aiming for 7-8 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. If you miss out on a sunbed, you'll likely be left without shade for most of the day. Alternatively, consider visiting during the off-season when this issue is non-existent, or simply bring your own beach towel and find a spot on the sand.
Pro Tip: If you're staying at a nearby hotel, inquire about their policies regarding beach access and sunbed usage. Some hotels might have arrangements that contribute to the early 'reservation' phenomenon.
The Allure of Cala Bendinat's Waters
The visual appeal of the water is amplified by the picturesque surroundings. The cala is framed by traditional Mallorcan houses perched on the cliffs above, creating a charming and idyllic scene. This combination of pristine water and scenic beauty makes Cala Bendinat a highly photogenic location, especially during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset.
While the beach itself is relatively small, the quality of the water and the tranquil atmosphere (especially outside peak summer hours) make it a worthwhile destination for those seeking a beautiful and refreshing dip in the Mediterranean.
Seasonal Vibes at Cala Bendinat
In contrast, the winter months transform Cala Bendinat into a peaceful haven. It becomes a favorite spot for locals to walk their dogs and enjoy the quiet serenity of the coastline. The absence of sunbeds and beach bars creates a more natural and tranquil environment. For those who prefer a less crowded experience and appreciate the raw beauty of the coast, winter is an ideal time to visit.
The shoulder seasons, spring and autumn, offer a pleasant compromise. The weather is typically warm and sunny, but the crowds are significantly smaller than in mid-summer. This allows for a more relaxed enjoyment of the beach, with a better chance of securing a sunbed and appreciating the natural beauty without the hustle and bustle.
