The power of light inside the Sagrada Familia ✨ When you visit Barcelona it is a must to visit not only the outside, but also the inside of the famous Sagrada Familia. Reviews Summary

Visitors praise El Petó Mural for its unique concept and beautiful execution, noting its symbolic meaning of peace and passion. However, many find the experience can be hampered by significant crowds, particularly those focused on taking photos, leading to a less serene appreciation of the art. Despite this, its convenient location in the Gothic Quarter makes it a worthwhile detour.

"Beautiful art, if you can see it behind the sea of selfie sticks! “The World Begins With Every Kiss” is a stunning mosaic made of tiny photo tiles—each one a little moment of love or life, all forming a giant kiss.

The mosaic is created by Joan Fontcuberta in 2014, and it meant to inspire peace and passion… but now mostly inspires Instagram poses. I advice you to come early if you want to feel something besides mild claustrophobia.

Still, worth a look—just be ready to photobomb someone’s “deep” moment."

"Beautiful art and the meaning behind it makes it more interesting! It's next to the cathedral of Barcelona and in the gothic quarter which makes it convenient to drop by while discovering touristy places in Barcelona."

"Very nice sculpture made of a lot of actual images. Lot of people around taking pictures, as always. And this is situated in a square with a lot of food places. You'll be able to have a chill snack while checking this out as well. Don't go out of the way to come here. But do take a detour if you're close by."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Artistry of El Petó Mural

El Petó Mural, titled 'The World Begins With Every Kiss,' is a captivating mosaic created by artist Joan Fontcuberta in 2014. It's not just a large image; it's composed of thousands of tiny photo tiles, each a personal snapshot submitted by people from around the world. These individual moments of love, life, and connection come together to form a powerful, universal symbol of a kiss. The sheer scale and detail of the mosaic are impressive, inviting viewers to look closer and discover the stories within. Reddit

The artwork's intention is to inspire peace and passion, a message that resonates deeply in its public setting. While it's a modern piece, its placement in the historic Gothic Quarter adds a unique juxtaposition. Visitors often remark on the beauty of the concept and the execution, finding it a poignant reminder of shared human experiences. Reddit

Despite its artistic merit, the mural is also a highly popular spot for photos, leading to frequent crowds. Many visitors suggest arriving early or late to truly appreciate the artwork without the hustle and bustle of peak tourist times. The surrounding square offers a pleasant atmosphere, with cafes and eateries providing a place to relax and reflect on the art. Reddit

Navigating Crowds and Capturing the Moment

El Petó Mural is a magnet for tourists, primarily due to its photogenic nature and central location. The desire to capture a personal photo with the iconic kiss often leads to a constant stream of visitors, especially during midday and weekends. This can make it challenging to get a clear shot or to simply stand and admire the artwork without feeling rushed. Reddit

Travelers frequently share tips on how to best experience the mural amidst the crowds. The most common advice is to visit during the 'shoulder hours' – early morning or late evening. This not only reduces the number of people but also offers different lighting conditions that can enhance the visual appeal of the mosaic. Some visitors have found success by being patient and waiting for brief moments when the crowd thins. Reddit

Beyond just taking a photo, many suggest taking a moment to appreciate the intricate details of the mosaic. Zooming in on the individual photo tiles can reveal a fascinating collection of personal moments. Combining the visit with a leisurely stroll through the Gothic Quarter, perhaps with a coffee or snack from a nearby establishment, can make the experience more relaxed and enjoyable, even with the presence of other visitors.
