Reviews Summary

El Call Barcelona is praised for its unbeatable location in the Gothic Quarter, offering excellent value for money. While rooms are compact and some lack windows, guests appreciate the cleanliness, safety, and proximity to attractions. Service can be inconsistent, and noise from the surroundings is a common consideration.

"Super convenient, safe, clean, friendly. For me, I'm not hanging out in my hotel so as long as it's clean and safe, I'm happy.
I took public transportation and one suitcase so no worries about that. I'd stay there again and I would recommend it."

Karen Pearson

"We booked a room for 4, with 1 queen and 2 single beds.

The room has very minimal amenities - no hot water kettle, no soap. But it does come with a nice shower, some hand soap, clean towels and WiFi.

Location was great, everything was within a 20-30 walk. The location didn’t feel super dangerous but since it’s near bars, it can be a little rowdy.

I think if you’re coming with just a group of 2, it’s great since the room is tiny and functional. But anything more, it would be a little tricky in terms of luggage/space.

They do have a lift, but it’s quite small, so only about 2 persons (with luggage)."

Alexandra Tay

"Location is convenient, but their service was outrageous....... The rooms have paper thin walls and I was right by the elevator shaft which was unbelievably annoying... NO windows (unless you count the scenic elevator shaft). I told 2 separate employees that my room was SUPER warm and there was no hot water, they couldn't have cared less, literally rolled their eyes at me my fiancee. The rudest hotel I have ever visited!"

Consider booking two rooms if space is a concern, or ensure you pack very efficiently. This historic neighborhood is a treasure trove of medieval architecture, charming plazas, and hidden alleyways. Wandering through its narrow lanes is an experience in itself, with surprises around every corner. You'll find yourself close to iconic landmarks like the Barcelona Cathedral and the bustling Las Ramblas. Be prepared for a sensory experience – the sounds of street performers, the aroma of local eateries, and the vibrant energy of the city are all part of the charm. Reddit

While the Gothic Quarter is incredibly walkable, it's easy to get delightfully lost. Embrace this! Many travelers find the best discoveries happen when they deviate from the main paths. Keep an eye out for Roman ruins, ancient city walls, and small artisan shops. The area can be quite lively, especially in the evenings, which contributes to its atmosphere but might be a consideration if you prefer absolute quiet. Reddit

For those interested in history, the MUHBA (Museu d'Història de Barcelona) has several sites scattered throughout the Gothic Quarter, including remnants of the ancient Roman city of Barcino. Exploring these sites offers a deeper understanding of Barcelona's rich past, right at your doorstep. Reddit

Room Realities at El Call

Travelers consistently note that rooms at El Call Barcelona are compact and functional. This is a key aspect to consider when booking, especially if you're traveling with a group or have a lot of luggage. The hotel prioritizes a central location and affordability over spacious accommodations. Some rooms are described as having minimal amenities, such as lacking a hot water kettle or full-sized toiletries, so it's wise to pack accordingly. Reddit

A significant point of feedback is that many rooms lack traditional windows, with some guests mentioning views of the elevator shaft. While this contributes to the unique character and potentially lower price point, it's something to be aware of if natural light and views are a priority for you. The hotel does offer a lift, but it's small, accommodating only about two people with luggage at a time. Reddit

Despite the size and window situation, the rooms are generally found to be clean and safe, which many guests prioritize for a city-break hotel. The focus is on providing a comfortable and secure base from which to explore Barcelona, rather than a place to spend extensive time relaxing indoors. Reddit
