"If you arrive to Badajoz by train, most probably you'll choose to walk via this bridge to the old city. This 600 m long, historic, 16th century stone bridge was rebuild several times, latest in 1830s will bring you to the entrance to the old city of Badajoz. Bridge is only for pedestrians."

"Beautiful bridge over the Rio Guadiana in Badajoz.
On our journey from Conil to Bilbao we decided to take some zig zag detours to some of the lesser know places in Spain.
First stop was Zafra and then over to Badajoz on the Portuguese border. Badajoz is a place we were very unfamiliar with as it is not on our usual route but it was a wonderful surprise, a really lovely city with many attractions and wonderful history. The fact that it has a great Area Caravanna right on the River Guadiana within walking distance to all the attractions was a real bonus.
To get to the city just walk across the beautiful now pedestrian Puerte de Palmas ( 1460 ) with the
Hornabeque del Puente de Palmas ( River Fortifications ) on the west bank. This is being restored by the Ayunamiento de Badajoz and will be a small museum when completed. The area around the west bank of the river has a really nice feel to it with a beautiful river walk , parks and playground's. Possibly the best Aire we ever stayed in for a city."
