What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the San Sebastián Bridge to be a simple yet colorful and important access point to key attractions like the Niemeyer Center and the Romantic Zone. While some note its historical evolution, most appreciate its modern, vibrant replica for its aesthetic appeal and functional role in the city.
"Technically this is the third St Sebastian’s Bridge. The first one was a stone bridge built centuries ago and it took the name from the nearby chapel of St Sebastian. It was substituted many years later by a metallic bridge, allowing the pass to the steel factory. The bridge initially wasn’t that popular and it was even described like an Eiffel tower having a nap. That bridge was neglected when a bigger one was built, the Azud Bridge. In 2006 the bridge was replaced by the existing multicolor replica, being now the main access to the Niemeyer. You can see the remains of the first steel bridge if you follow the walk along the river ( Paseo de la Ria)."

The Evolution of the San Sebastián Bridge
This metallic bridge eventually fell into disuse when the larger Azud Bridge was constructed. In 2006, the current, brightly colored replica was built, becoming the main access point to the Niemeyer Center. For a glimpse into the past, you can still find remnants of the first steel bridge along the Paseo de la Ría, offering a tangible connection to the area's industrial heritage.
Connecting Culture and Community
Beyond its cultural significance, the bridge is a beloved part of the Romantic Zone, offering easy access to its charming streets, shops, and restaurants. Its vibrant colors have made it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, adding a splash of joy to the urban landscape and serving as a cheerful meeting point.
