What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Atlantis Sa Pedrera is a truly magical and unique natural wonder, offering stunning pools and breathtaking cliff views. While the hike can be challenging, especially the ascent, visitors find it incredibly rewarding. The lack of amenities and cell signal requires thorough preparation, but the unforgettable experience makes it a must-visit for many.
"Don’t be put off by reviews saying this is a difficult hike. As with any physical activity, if you take it slow to suit your fitness level, you will be fine. Me and my boyfriend did this barefoot and it took us 25 mins down and 35 up. Take lots of water and potentially some water shoes if you want to jump in the sea! Incredible walk as long as you go the right way, we ended up down the other side of the peninsula in a rock scree so make sure to get proper directions!!! A fun adventure either way."

"One of the most magical places I’ve ever been to🩷 Worth the hike. Definitely bring loooots of water and sunscreen."

"Beautiful overlook to the sea from very high cliffs. There is a small trail (relatively flat except for one part) that you can walk in flip flops. We had originally gone here to find the Atlantis UNESCO heritage site but it is apparently very hard to get to (and is located at the bottom of the steep cliff). Would still recommend for a quick visit and then a cab ride to Cala D’Hort, which has umbrellas and beach chairs."

The Hike to Atlantis
Navigating the trail requires attention. Some reviews warn of ending up in rocky scree areas if not following proper directions. While the descent might be manageable for many, the climb back up is often described as demanding. For those planning to swim in the pools, water shoes are a practical addition to protect your feet from the rocky bottom. The lack of cell signal at the bottom of the quarry is a significant point to consider; ensure someone knows your plans before you venture down.
Despite the physical demands, the reward is immense. The unique landscape and the feeling of discovery make the effort worthwhile for many. It’s an adventure that requires preparation but offers a truly unique natural experience on Ibiza.
Exploring the Natural Pools
To best enjoy the pools, visiting during high tide is recommended, as this generally leads to clearer water. The pools themselves vary in depth and size, offering different areas for relaxation and exploration. Some reviews mention that the pools can become murky during low tide, so timing your visit is key. For those feeling adventurous, there are also great jumping spots into the deeper sections of the pools.
It's important to note that while the pools are a highlight, the surrounding area is rugged. The safest and easiest ways to descend into the pools are often described as being from specific points near a large boulder. Always be mindful of your surroundings and the stability of the rocks when moving around the pools.
The UNESCO Heritage Site Aspect
Many visitors initially come seeking the UNESCO site but end up thoroughly enjoying the accessible parts of Atlantis Sa Pedrera, such as the pools and the stunning cliff views. The experience of exploring the ex-quarry and its unique formations is often described as magical in itself, even without reaching the more elusive heritage designation.
For those interested in the historical or cultural significance, it's advisable to research the specific UNESCO designation beforehand. However, for a memorable day out focused on natural beauty and a bit of adventure, the accessible areas of Atlantis Sa Pedrera are more than sufficient.
