"Nicee"

Mihail Autu

"A beautiful neoclassical church in Almería, it was built in the late 18th century on the ruins of the 16th-century convent of San Francisco. The main altar once featured the image of Saint Francis, but now houses Saint Peter. The church preserves an old 17th-century chapel, the only structure that has been recovered from the old convent. The main façade features a portico between two twin towers. We visited the interior and took photos."

Lluis Higini Melero Peris

"The Church of San Pedro stands out for its façade, with a central section between setback towers, creating a prominent portico, very similar to the purest neoclassical buildings. Other characteristics of this style are evident here, such as the attention to proportions, the columns supporting the capital, and even the combination of stone and brick. Inside, there are three naves with five pairs of chapels on either side. The dome of the main altar features frescoes by Fray Juan García.
The church was originally built on the site of an old mosque—the Catholic Monarchs had ordered its construction in 1494. However, it was destroyed in 1790 by an earthquake and rebuilt in 1796 in the neoclassical style."
