Even as a Dutch person from Indonesian parents, I'm aware of the term 'comfort women'. But I've never heard personal stories. I can't imagine what these women has been going through, because there's no word to describe something as cruel as that.
We came from Japan yesterday where we have visited several WWII related sites. Living in a Dutch city that was severely damaged by bombing during WWII, I wanted to learn more about the Japanese part of this story. Of course, as expected, Japan doesn't acknowledge their role and their crimes during WWII. We travelled to more countries and we've learned about their war crimes. Like the death mars in Borneo for example. And the terrible camps in Thailand. But none of those areas taught us about this part that involved women.
We have a profound respect for the surviving ladies who are making a difference by demonstrating every Wednesday in front of the Japanese embassy. It's a disgrace Japan still doesn't acknowledge the facts and choose to ignore it.
Visiting this museum makes you more aware of these war crimes and how women and girls have suffered and are still suffering worldwide. It has to stop. These brave Korean women are still fighting for recognition. But visiting this museum, you show support and that's the least you can do.
Other than that, this museum is small. But the exhibitions are impressive and they hit you hard. We've spend 2 hours in the museum. The audio tour is included in the fee. The audio has an English option and it really gives you an experience filled with emotions, rather than just telling facts. The entrance is subtle and can be easily missed, by the way.

"This museum was very educational and impactful. While at times it was a bit confronting its message was beautiful and necessary.
It was easy to find using Naver although keep in mind there are several staircases inside the museum and I’m unsure if there are ways around them. However it did have an audio guide available in multiple languages including English which was surprising and good quality.
This is a great place to learn more about the violence Korean women faced under the Japanese soldiers and women around the world continue to face as well as to pay your respects and donate if you can. I even saw a woman bring her daughter and son which I thought was a good idea to increase awareness and understanding among the younger generations.
Definitely worth checking out if you have time!!"
