What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Phoenix Pyeongchang offers a prime location for skiing with stunning winter views, but guests frequently cite issues with facility costs, room cleanliness, and poor soundproofing. While staff hospitality is generally good, the overall value for money for non-skiing activities and dining experiences is a recurring concern for many visitors.
"Arrived around 12 noon, but the room wasn’t ready yet luckily, the staff were really friendly and explained the situation nicely. We dropped off our luggage and headed straight to the Ski Park to enjoy skiing while waiting for the 3PM check-in.
The room was spacious with a stunning winter view of the snow-covered mountains. It was quite well equipped, but there was a noticeable old odour in the room, which was a bit unpleasant.
At night, there weren’t many restaurant options nearby, so we just went to the CU mart within walking distance. Ended the night by playing with the snowboard provided free by the ski resort definitely a fun way to wrap up the day!"

"I came here during the off season, so no crowds. The hotel is beautiful and serene with nice walking areas nearby.
The rooms are spacious and comfy - especially the bed. I had everything I needed, although an iron and ironing board would have been nice.
There is a nice cafe/restaurant in the 1st floor where a live band plays (not too loud).
There are restaurants and a convenient store within a short walk.
If you come for skiing, this is a great location for it."

"1. Room Condition
The room was in good condition, with satisfactory cleanliness. However, it offers only the basic amenities, so expectations should be managed accordingly. The soundproofing is severely inadequate. Not only could we hear noises from the floor above, but also small sounds from all directions, including conversations, footsteps, and even the clipping of nails, all with unsettling clarity. This is a significant issue that requires urgent improvement.
2. Facilities
All facilities incur additional charges for guests, and discounts available through Naver are even cheaper than those offered to hotel guests. The benefits of staying at the hotel are quite minimal.
For the pool, while the pricing is similar to other well-known water parks, the facilities are significantly inferior. Despite being in peak season, many of the slides were not operational, and there seemed to be an excessive height restriction of 120 cm, even for simple and safe slides. The water quality was also quite poor, with the hot spa in particular being severely unclean, forcing us to leave immediately due to visible dirt. Overall, the cleanliness and management of the facilities were substandard, and the value for money was very disappointing.
As for the gondola, cleanliness was again an issue, with small items like fans not properly cleaned.
The luge is expensive, but it might be worth trying at least once.
Other facilities, such as mini-golf and sand play areas, appeared to be completely neglected in terms of maintenance.
3. Restaurant
We had dinner at the restaurant, and the experience was highly disappointing considering the price. While the variety of dishes was wide, the quality of the food was very poor. For instance, some of the pasta was undercooked and hard, and most of the desserts were excessively sweet, resembling low-quality junk food. Given that many families with children now seek organic and healthier dining options, the restaurant appears to be out of touch with current dietary trends.
4. Staff
The hospitality provided by the staff was generally good. However, it seems that there has been an over-reduction in staffing, likely due to cost-cutting measures, which negatively impacts the overall service experience.
5. Other
There was confusion when navigating the parking lot due to unclear directions. It would greatly benefit from more precise signage and guidance."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
When it comes to dining, the on-site restaurants have been criticized for food quality and price, so utilizing the nearby CU mart for snacks and simpler meals could be a practical solution for families. Navigating Phoenix Pyeongchang's Facilities
For those seeking a unique experience, the 'In the SOOP' stay offers a tranquil and aesthetically pleasing environment, inspired by the popular BTS reality show. This provides a different vibe from the more active ski resort. It's worth noting that discounts are often available through platforms like Naver, which can be significantly cheaper than on-site rates, making it a smart move for budget-conscious travelers.
When planning your visit, be aware that while the resort offers amenities, the value for money for some facilities has been questioned by guests. Prioritize which activities are most important to you and research potential savings beforehand to make the most of your stay.
Accommodation and Room Experiences
Basic amenities are generally provided, but guests have pointed out the lack of items like an iron and ironing board. Cleanliness has also been a point of contention, with some reviews mentioning issues like stained pillows and hairs on sheets. It's advisable to manage expectations regarding the room's condition and to be prepared for potential noise disturbances.
Despite these drawbacks, the location is excellent for skiers, allowing easy access to the slopes. For those seeking a quieter, more curated experience, the 'In the SOOP' stay offers a distinct accommodation option.
Dining and Convenience at the Resort
For a more convenient and budget-friendly alternative, a CU mart is located within walking distance of the hotel. This is a good option for grabbing snacks, drinks, or simpler meal items. Given the mixed reviews on the main restaurants, planning your meals by utilizing the convenience store or exploring nearby options if available might be a wise strategy to ensure a more satisfying culinary experience during your stay.
