"very very good !"

윤철민

"Not far from Orung stands Najeong, which holds the legend of Hyeokgeose's birth.
Before Silla, the land of Jinhan was ruled by six village chiefs, believed to be refugees from Gojoseon.
These six village chiefs were Alcheon Yangsanchon, Dolsan Goheochon, Chwisan Jinjichon, Musan Daesuchon, Geumsan Garichon, and Myeonghwalsan Goyachon.
One day, the Goheochon village chief saw a horse kneeling and neighing at the foot of Yangsan Mountain.
Downhill, he saw no horse, but a large, glowing egg.
From this egg, Hyeokgeose was born.
The people of the six clans, recognizing the child's extraordinary birth and his exceptional intelligence as he grew up, proclaimed him king and established a nation called Seorabeol.
This marked the birth of Silla.

Excavations at Najeong revealed the remains of an octagonal building and an oval well. The octagonal building is believed to be the site of a "Shingung," a ceremonial facility said to have been built at the birthplace of the founder.

The Najeong area is currently well-organized, and some stone artifacts and a stele erected during the reign of King Sunjo of the Joseon Dynasty remain."

"The starting point of the Park family in our country,
and the starting point of Silla history.
Now, all that remains are the restored building site, the tombstone known to have been built during the Joseon Dynasty,
and the stone discovered during the excavation process.

It is impossible for the relics from 2,000 years ago to have been completely preserved,
but it is a symbolic place as the starting point of Silla history,
and yet it feels empty somehow.
The uniquely growing pine trees, the view of Namsan from here,
and the appearance of Danseoksan to the west are incredibly peaceful. The road in front of the nearby Yukbujeon will soon be covered in beautiful cherry blossoms during the upcoming cherry blossom season. The walking path connecting Namgan Village, Ilseong Royal Tomb, Namgansaji Stone Pavilion and Dangganjiju, Changnimsaji, and Poseokjeong is a really nice course for a comfortable walk!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Legend of Park Hyeokgeose

Najeong is intrinsically linked to the founding myth of the Silla Kingdom. According to legend, the founder, Park Hyeokgeose, was born from a large, glowing egg found at this very spot by the chief of the Goheochon village. This miraculous birth led to his proclamation as king, establishing the nation of Seorabeol, which later became Silla. The site is believed to have been a ceremonial ground for sacrifices to heaven. Reddit

Understanding this myth is key to appreciating Najeong. While the physical remains are modest, the site's power lies in its connection to the origin story of one of Korea's most significant historical kingdoms. The excavations have revealed an octagonal building and an oval well, supporting the idea of a sacred space. Reddit

Today, visitors can see the restored foundations and a stele erected during the Joseon Dynasty, which commemorates the site's historical importance. The surrounding natural beauty, including views of Namsan and Danseoksan mountains, adds to the tranquil atmosphere. Reddit

Historical Excavations and Significance

Archaeological excavations at Najeong have provided tangible evidence of its historical importance. These digs uncovered the remains of an octagonal building and an oval well, suggesting it was a significant ceremonial facility, possibly a 'Shingung' (sacred palace), built at the birthplace of the founder. This aligns with the legendary accounts of Hyeokgeose's birth. Reddit

The site's significance is further underscored by the presence of a stele erected during the Joseon Dynasty. This monument serves as a testament to the enduring reverence for Najeong as the starting point of Silla history and the Park family lineage. While the original relics from 2,000 years ago are not fully preserved, the excavated foundations and the stele offer a glimpse into the past. Reddit

Despite its historical weight, some visitors note that the site can feel 'empty' if one doesn't have prior knowledge of the legend. The current organization of the area, including ongoing environmental reorganizations, can also present some inconveniences. However, its role as the symbolic origin of Silla makes it a crucial stop for history enthusiasts. Reddit
