What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cafe Seoul offers a visually stunning experience with its traditional hanok setting and beautifully presented pastries, particularly the Pandoro cake. While the ambiance is a major draw, some visitors find the drink selection limited and pricey, and the quality of certain baked goods inconsistent. Expect queues, especially on weekends.
"This spot is trendy and it tends to get busy. I don’t really get the hype on it, but I did try one of their famous Pandoro cake and it was very delicious. It was the only tasty item along with one other pistachio croissant. Their chocolate covered croissant wasn’t as good nor were their other baked stuff. It was average. As for their drink selection, it’s so limited and such a rip off. I got their vegan drink, asked for less ice and I got almost half a cup(see photo).. when I asked them why it’s not filled, they’re like because you wanted less ice.. I clearly got scammed. It was ridiculous and not worth it. I honestly wouldn’t go back.. only to get their Pandoro cake if I’m craving it."

"Sooooo disappointed, not worth the hype... the 2 stars are for the aesthetic of the place, the nice staff and the one edible item that I got.
I bought: matcha and white chocolate scone, cheese flavoured cake, hazelnut cream choux.
Matcha white chocolate scone - delicious, really nice texture and matcha flavour, not too sweet and very balanced.
Cheese flavoured cake - I love savoury sweet combinations, but Korea's obsession with this orange artificial cheese flavouring has to stop. I really wanted to like this, I love bold, weird baking choices, but this was so gross. The cake was extremely dry, the rosemary made everything quite acidic, and the cream cheese/orange cheese frosting was nasty but provided some moisture. How did this cake win an award?!
Hazelnut choux - FROZEN SOLID. I read other reviews and they said the same thing... I get that I could have just waited to eat this but I had no idea it would be frozen and I don't think anyone really expects that when buying these things. Flavour was ok but nothing special."

"This cafe was unique in that it’s located in a historic Korean home. Very cool indoor seating and an outdoor area to sit as well. The pastry’s looked and tasted amazing! As did the Earl Grey signature milk tea. We enjoyed the seasonal special croissant with a yummy creamy cheese filling and fresh figs. There was a quicker pick up or seat outside line than the inside seating line."

Navigating the Pastry Selection
However, not all pastries receive universal acclaim. Some reviews indicate that certain items, like chocolate-covered croissants or other baked goods, can be average. There have also been instances of pastries being served frozen, which can be a disappointing experience. It's worth noting that the cheese-flavored cake, despite winning awards, has received criticism for its artificial flavor and dry texture.
When making your selection, consider focusing on the highly recommended items like the Pandoro or seasonal specials. If you're adventurous, try other unique offerings, but be aware that quality can vary. The visual appeal of the pastries is undeniable, making them a great subject for photos, regardless of taste.
Cafe Culture and Etiquette
As one Reddit user noted, it's considered good practice to purchase an item every couple of hours if you plan to occupy a table for an extended period, especially during busy times. This shows respect for the establishment and its other customers. While most cafes offer Wi-Fi, it's always a good idea to confirm its availability and speed if you have critical work to do.
Be aware that popular cafes can get crowded, leading to queues. If you're looking for a quiet place to work without interruption, consider visiting during off-peak hours or exploring cafes that are specifically known for catering to remote workers. Cafe Seoul's ambiance is a significant part of its appeal, so being a considerate patron will help maintain that for everyone.
