Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about De Oude Drostdy's free admission, immaculate preservation, and the warm welcome. The mini high tea is a highlight, praised for its delicious offerings and charming ambiance. While generally excellent, a minor note on mold in the jail cellars was mentioned, suggesting a need for occasional upkeep in specific areas.
"The Drostdy Museum in Tulbagh is set in the most amazing location – surrounded by historic charm and stunning scenery. The building is beautifully preserved, and everything is incredibly clean and well maintained. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived, warmly greeted at the door, which added a lovely personal touch.
The exhibits are fascinating, and the rich history of the area really comes to life as you walk through. The old jail cellars were especially interesting to see, though we did notice some black mold in that area – it could use a bit of cleaning or at least a small warning sign for visitors.
Despite that, it was a truly great experience overall – and the best part is, it’s free! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Tulbagh and love history."

"The best experience in Tulbagh so far. We booked a mini high tea in advance. Lida made the most wonderful spread of sweet and savoury treats. Besides the delicious and well presented eats the museum itself is in an immaculate condition. Not a speck of dust and each item is labeled with a proper description in a booklet provided. The condition of the building and exhibits are in a far better condition than the 'museums' in town. It is good to know that a piece of our history is in good hands."
