What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Hout Bay Breakwater for its stunning photographic opportunities, especially the seals and harbour scenery, and the enjoyable atmosphere for strolls. However, some note concerns about litter in the harbour and caution against local scams offering close-up seal encounters.
"A serious spot for photographers. The light, especially on the early morning in winter, is splendid. The scenery includes the harbour with semi submerged boats and the cliffs behind it.
Some locals approach tourists with the usual seal feeding scam. They can be a bit annoying but not to a point I wouldn't recommend going, just respectfully send them off.
Don't fall for it, you'll have to pay afterwards. Then you see tourists fleeing, seriously, nothing's free ! Think before, not after."

"A lekker outing to get fish and chips nearby..
However, the harbour is in a sad state with all the littering.
Still people takes a picture with the local seal..( still dangerous with locals inviting people to take a close up picture with young ones )"

"A Beautiful harbour, a nice place for a stroll with the family and the dog. We were able to capture some beautiful photographs of the fishing boats and other vessels in the harbour. The harbour has a nice backdrop of mountains that helps frame the photos by the sea. Well worth stopping of for a look while driving along the coast."
