What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Great Synagogue (Gardens Shul) is praised for its beautiful, historic architecture and well-maintained sanctuary, offering daily minyan services. While the community and spiritual atmosphere are generally positive, some visitors have noted issues with security procedures and obtaining specific information about on-site facilities like the library.
"I've been going to this shul for a long time and almost everything and everyone is wonderful there. Unfortunately I have just one complaint of a more than annoying thing that I experienced this morning when I phoned to make enquiries. Garron who answered the phone was unable to answer my questions about the Gitlin Library on the premises which I find incompetent of him. I know that he doesn't work there but if he is unsure of the working hours he should at least know the telephone number of that place since he works very close by. I was very angry about this."

"Built as a replacement for the old synagogue next door which they outgrew in1905.
A truly beautiful shul which is still in use.
Also next door is the Cape Town Holocaust Centre and a kosher diary deli."
Richard Schagrin
"A beautiful old shul. Well kept. Daily minyan. Great acoustics."
